A 51-year-old convicted of sexually assaulting three of his own children and a grandchild will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
According to the Denver District Attorney's Office David Tarver sexually assaulted at least three of his children, dating back to the 1980's. Last January a jury found Tarver guilty of multiple counts of sexual assault on a child, sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, pattern of abuse, and aggravated incest.
The victims reported the abuse after Tarver was arrested in 2010 for sexually assaulting a grandchild in Wyoming. The Denver District Attorney's Office says that he has been convicted in Wyoming and will begin serving his sentence there.
Since 2006, the number of child victims of abuse or neglect has increased by 7.9 percent in Colorado, according to the Child Welfare League of America. According to Child Help, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping victims, over 90 percent of sexually abused children know their perpetrator.
