Baby Squirrel Gets Tiny Purple Cast After Falling Out Of Nest (PHOTO)

Posted: 03/ 8/2012 6:22 pm

A little grey squirrel, dubbed "Violet," who fell from her nest last week has been outfitted with a cast that fits just right.

According to the Solent News & Photo Agency, Violet fell to ground when a couple unknowingly trimmed the tree branch that was holding her nest.

Spotting the baby and realizing she was now separated from her mother, the couple called up animal rescue workers at the Wildlife Aid Foundation, who bandaged up the squirrel with a small cast that was -- you guessed it -- violet.

Foundation workers have since been feeding her a special milk formula while they nurse her back to health, MSNBC reports.

"Violet is a little fighter and is coping very well - I’m really hopeful she will be fine," Lucy Kells, hospital manager at the Wildlife Aid Foundation, told the Daily Mail. "We hope we can release her back into the wild in about 16 to 20 weeks' time."

I have a peanutboxes on trees in my front yard so I feed a lot of squirrels, but I have never seen one that small....she's utterly precious. My squirrels are pretty friendly...they come up on the porch looking in the front door for me to feed them walnuts or pecans.

I think you're right, gray squirrels don't have white bellies.

How people treat animals, children, the sick, and the elderly says nearly all we need to know about a society.

I had a pet squirrel when I was a child. He also fell from a tree. My mom fed him from an eye dropper and he was in a large bird cage. We named him Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang (popular movie at my age at that time). Between his chattering and the racket on the cage, that was a perfect name! OH! And the loud shrill whistles that indicated he was hungry - can't forget those!

thank goodness they fixed his arm, he'll need it when the day comes he has to scratch his way into someone's attic to find shelter from the cold....thank you Doc......this might be the same Doc who helped that raccoon get better when he hurt himself knocking over a garbage pail....

Seriously? That's what you have to say about this story? Wow...you really sound like a compassionate person.

I wish the same care could be done for humans that they did for this little squirrel. These feel good segments are great to ease our consciences for the moment. However, where are the fighters for the numbers of men, women dying because of lack of health coverage? Where are the overseers of unethical experimental social, medical and drug treatment done non-consensually on innocent military and civilian folks by pharmaceutical companies, social organizations and physicians? Where are the folks who are enraged at fake diagnosis given to millions of children that will burden them and subjugate them to forced covert programs so that someone's pocketbook can be filled for the present moment? Or what about the phsycial, mental and emotional torture that Americans are going through daily by militia and social hate groups perpetrating as community action teams, religious organizations and government personnel due to extrajudicial processes and vigilantism based on theocratic ideals when funding is using fraud? Sorry for the pessimism but when you have been a non-consenting participant in one experiment after another, and then someone decides to hide evidence by slow-kill "games" via "natural conditions" using torture and stress techniques from the psychiatric industry and military style weaponry, you see things much differently. Or worse, when you are falsely imprisoned by someone sabotaging your jobs, car, breaking into your home threatening your security and life on a regular basis along with a harassment campaign, you see things differently.

What does all your ranting have anything to do with a baby squirrel?? Get off your health care soap box, you bore me.
02:43 PM on 03/12/2012
I bore you enough for you to read it entirely and do what negative hateful people do--antagonize.

Your response with negativity versus empathy indicates truth hurts for those who are a part of the hateful group who targets individuals to cause pain for enjoyment (oh yeah, and will go to church and praise God for all the folks they harm intentionally).
02:52 PM on 03/12/2012
Oh, sorry, I didn't read your reply in entirety. My point is that the same person who would post a story about a baby squirrel's broken arm will roar in excitement over injustices towards a human. The hypocrisy and lack of empathy from extremist harassment groups toward their fellow man is astounding, and this is meant for left and right extremist groups. It's amazing how someone can cry and coo over a baby squirrel but will spit at another human for who they are. I have seen it in action not on a video tape in 1950 in Selma, AL but in person in New York, Cali and other pretend liberal places. It's a pattern I notice. Post the feel good picture of the pretty pet to make us all feel good about the bullsht we do to groups we don't understand and ignore what really is happening in the city, state and country.
09:56 AM on 03/13/2012
Geez everybody has there own cause, don't put people down for liking or helping a baby squirrel because you think they aren't helping your cause. There are millions of people in the world everybody has their own thing. I have Lyme Disease and support my cause should I curse the ones who don't and support another? No.... They say there was a program where the government tested and infected people with Lyme Disease as a Bio-weapon at Plum Island, there is proof. Doesn't stop me from loving animals and smiling at these pictures though. The world isn't the government, don't hate everyone. Take up for your own cause and don't put others down for liking theirs.
