The Custom Mary. It came out after the contest. It's an easy contender. It's the story of the cloning of Jesus set in modern Los Angeles lowrider culture. Its a wild story. Beautifully directed, acted, shot, and sound. It's a movie that doesn't end after you see it. I've watched it about a dozen times now. You should seriously check it out. :)

This is the best list of All Jesus Christ Movies I've ever found. Those films had touched my heart and I feel the truthfulness. http://www.ranker.com/list/all-jesus-christ-movies/all-genre-movies-lists

How could you not love it ?? Great music and visuals! When the Original album was released it was impossible to find (brown cover). Luckily I got my hands on one (box not the gatefold). I wore it out! I learned more about the Gospels from that album then church!

JC Superstar the movie was OK, but if you had seen the original Broadway production in the early 1970s' you'd say the movie was terrible by comparison. How anyone could put that movie above Max von Sydow's performance in the Greatest Story Ever Told, Jeffrey Hunter's in King of Kings, or the very best (most biblically accurate) movie of all, Jesus (The Man You thought You Knew), is beyond my understanding. I wonder how many people who voted in this poll actually SAW the movies they voted against. Jesus TMYTYK was a very low distribution movie seen by relatively few people in the theaters when released in 1979, but it was taken straight from the Gospel of Luke with no embelishments or "artistic license." It will always be the best in my book.

I forgot to mention "King of Kings". The 1961 version. There were mistakes in that movie especially when King Herod send out Roman soldiers to Bethlehem to kill the innocent children. According to history, Roman soldiers never took orders from foreign kings such as Herod. They took orders from Roman authorities. King Herod send out his own soldiers to do it. One part I like was the Last Supper. It was very spiritual. The reason the people picked Jesus Christ, Superstar was the music in it and not the meaning. One thing I don't like JCS is they left out the real meaning:" The Resurrection". I was surprised "The Life of Brian" was chosen. That movie was Total B.S.

The best movie on Jesus is "Jesus of Nazareth". Robert Powell really brought it out. I like "The Passion of the Christ" because of the scriptures in it. The movie "Jesus" was based the Gospel of Luke. One thing I don't like about "Jesus Christ Superstar" is that they leave out one important thing. "The Resurrection".

JC Superstar is a very good musical. The music in inventive and catchy, the lyrics are clever and it is structurally and dramatically sound ( no pun intended).
My fave-Pilate's Dream.

Of course it is not the best JC movie-
That honor unquestionably goes to "The Last Temptation of Christ."

Best JC novel- "Master and Margarita" by Bulgakov.

I can still sing the whole soundtrack from memory - I listened to it that often as a teenager.

Superstar made Jesus out to be a whiny little screamer that pouted a lot,The lord as a spoiled teenager as it were. Some of the tunes are pretty good though.

Could there have been any other result? This film appealed to the young, who finally found a way to relate to this 'perfect' being, to rock fans who loved the soundtrack (me) and even to those with no religious beliefs (again me) who were moved by Ted's portrayal of a young man who had a huge burden placed on his shoulders and was afraid of what was coming. This film is excellent on so many levels!

Superstar was a film that really spoke to the early 70's generation (and some younger kids like me) and at least made a lot of us think twice about this Jesus person. Plus it just had the catchiest music! To me "Gospel of John" is a better film, but "Superstar" had the power to reach out and grab you.

I remember seeing JCS when I was a kid around lent. Ted Neely is really good and gave it to the role of Jesus. If you want a different take on Jesus try see Pasollini's The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964).

Jesus of Nazareth by (I think) Franco Zeffirelli was the best and actually started me on my road to Christianity (I grew up atheist). It is a piece of art.

The fact that Jesus Christ...Superstar was voted the best tells me exactly how culturally deprived we Americans are.

One guesses they are thinking of the Broadway Soundtrack, not the horrible film.

If you haven't already, you should see the sequel to Jesus of Nazareth; it is simply called A.D.. It has many of the same actors and depicts, essentially, the book of Acts and other early history of the church. It is really good (but, like Jesus of Nazareth, it is almost 6 hours long!).

I'll check it out. Yes, I know Jesus could not have been that tall or have BLUE eyes, but it's still a work of art to me.

On a trip to Branson I had a chance to see a gay man do a wonderful Jesus; I can totally see Jesus being gay.
