'Junkyard Prophet' Shocks Iowa School With Anti-Gay Messages At Assembly (VIDEO)

Students and staff at a high school in Dunkerton, Ia., were shocked when an assembly intended to address drug and bullying issues instead featured anti-gay messages that offended many students, staff and parents, the Lacrosse Tribune reports.

"They told these kids that anyone who was gay was going to die at the age of 42," parent Jennifer Littlefield told the Lacrosse Tribune. "It just blows me away that no one stopped this."

The group also told students that girls who aren't virgins at their weddings will have mud on their dresses, according to the paper.

Junkyard Prophet, the Minnesota-based traveling band that was brought to Dunkerton High School to discuss practices for good decision making, is part of the You Can Run But You Cannot Hide Christian youth ministry that holds assemblies in public schools.

Twin sisters Brandi and Randi Smith, told the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier that, while they consider themselves to be Christian, they don't believe a performance like that should take place at a school -- and that student interaction has changed drastically since the incident.

"The whole school's like way tense," Brandi told the paper. "No one's getting along any more."

Students have since started a petition urging school officials not to allow similar performances in the future, according to the Courier.

Superintendent Jim Stanton told the Lacrosse Tribune that the group received good feedback when they performed at the school in the past, and that they must have changed their message since then.

Stanton told Talking Points Memo that Dunkerton High School now has an "action plan" that will make sure all performers are properly screened before taking the school stage in the future and that counseling is being offered to students who may have felt ostracized by the performance.

“We’ve learned from this,” Stanton told TPM. “It will never happen again.”

I came across this article purely by accident ... I watched the video clip and saw nothing wrong with it ... I applaud the guy for standing up for Christ.

AND ...

The speaker did NOT say that if someone was gay he/she would die at the age of 42. He said that statics show that the average life expectancy for a gay man is 42. Because of his lifestyle choice he cut his life expectancy in 1/2.

Why is it that people of the world get offended when a Christian is speaking truth from the gospel? Yet, the very same people want to push their lifestyle on Christians are the ones that get angry when a Christian makes a stand for Christ.

We can have open gay relationships in high schools now, but not an open relationship with Christ??? Really??? Sounds hypercritical.

The world is very judgmental towards Christians. Personally I have had enough.
I know the Truth, the Word of God ... Whether the world agrees with it or not is NOT going to change what it says. The world can live their lives how every they choose ... I will not condemn anyone for their choices ... However, I will NOT change or manipulate the Word of God to justify my sin or anyone else's.

So much stupidity in this post, I'm honestly at a loss for words....

Someone really needs to step forward and bring a lawsuit against the school already. They can say they learned this and that, but the damage has been done. If I had a child that was exposed to this filth, I would want the principals head on a platter. 2 words into the Elton John rhetoric, and the mic would have been taken away.

im glad "they learned from this." but honestly, prophet is right in their name, they are a christian group that aims to get in the heads of students. how was it shocking that they had hate messages and misinformation to throw at everyone? christianity has gone from being a faith of love and peace, to a cult bent on hating all and sundry and generally destroying what ever society they come across.

Well..good grief...all I can say is how grateful I am that here no religious denomination gets a look into our schools, our govt etc....(& even better: no aspect of anyone's private life unless we wish it)..we call this 'freedom from religion'..where you are free to practice but not to bug others with it...

This is why Christian religious leaders are fighting to bury proposed laws against hate-speech.

You don't have to go very far to find out what a hate group this outfit is. Just look on Wikipedia under "You Can Run But You Cannot Hide International". SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center) lists them as a hate group.

I've heard about these "people" before. When I was in high school, I sent them an email telling them never to come to my school, because they would find a protest waiting for them. Not that my HS would ever allow these people within 10 miles of the campus, because a lot of the teachers and administrators were really supportive.

This kind of thing won't change until religions are classed as the political/business organisations that they really are, and disbarred from advertising their brands in schools.

I completely disagree with the message but, let's be honest here, this isn't actually that huge of a deal. The school should apologize. The administrators should have some of their pay docked. Classes should have a conversation about what they heard, what was wrong with it, and use it as a opportunity to refine their reasoning and critical thinking skills so that they can be better people than those that they heard speak. But that's about it.

First, the school administrator needs to be held accountable for this. They have a website that clearly shows that their whole point is to spread homophobic rhetoric.

Second, as soon the first slide that showed this type of hatred started one of the teachers, those who are supposed to lead the student body, should have stood up and ended this discussion. The teachers need to be held accountable as well.

And finally, this group needs to be outed for what they really stand for and NOT allowed in any public school. These people are sick and twisted and should not be allowed to spread their brand of hate. As a woman all I have to say is I would rather have mud on my wedding dress than the crap that they spew from their mouth and as someone who considers herself bisexual I would rather die at 42 knowing that I will leave a legacy of love and kindness in my wake then die leaving a legacy of hate and fear like these people.

It is obvious Mr Dean is over-compensating for something. Come on Brad, just come out of the closet already. At least then you will be able to get some fashion advice. Tracksuits are NOT as cool looking as you think they are.

that video is painful, feels like the movie Red State. some of these poor kids might be forever confused by this man's insane, hateful ramblings. we wonder why there is such a bullying epidemic and culture of suicide for LGBT youth, but heres their community telling them how deviant and unworthy of existence they are. you can keep your kids away from churches to guard them from that kind of hate, but now you have to watch your schools for institutionalized hate? i wonder whose decision it was to hire him and then to let him keep talking for an hour, b/c they need to be fired imo.

"You Can Run But You Can Not Hide" is the name of this "Christian" youth ministry. The Progressives and Liberals of the U.S. (and anyone else who believes in logic and humanism) need to be aware of how these groups are getting recruits, money, and sponsors. These groups are spreading misinformation, fear, intimidation, and misogyny. Sadly, hate groups are becoming more prevalent and are infiltrating the weakest parts of our society. Unless we stand up and act/vote...it's only going to get worse.
