One Direction, And 6 Other Boy Bands To Watch Out For In 2012

Among the many contributions the '90s gave to teenagers, including Tomagotchis, Gameboys and Beanie Babies, were the breakout of boy bands. With the Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC leading the way, these bands dominated pop culture and and gained loyal followings of thousands of screaming female fans. With many of the male groups breaking up after a few years, it seemed like the end of an era -- until now. Both from overseas and the U.S., a fresh crop of boy bands has burst onto the scene, capturing the attention of a whole new generation of super-fans. Watch out, Bieber and Jo Bros -- these seven hot new boy bands have come to steal the hearts of your female fans.

  • One Direction

    Are these guys the next Backstreet Boys? Joining Big Time Rush on tour, another British-Irish group called One Direction performed on the <em>Today Show</em> on March 12 to an audience of hundreds of screaming fans. The band was put together on the U.K. version of Simon Cowell's <em>The X Factor</em>. The boys will continue to conquer American culture, as they are set to <a href="" target="_hplink">perform on <em>Saturday Night Live</em></a> on April 7 with <em>Modern Family</em> star Sofia Vergara as guest host.

  • Big Time Rush

    Kendall, James, Carlos and Logan are the boys of American super group Big Time Rush. The band is featured on a television show on Nickelodeon of the same name, which chronicles the fictional misadventures of the four boys in Hollywood. Songstress Demi Lovato has reportedly been <a href="" target="_hplink">getting cozy</a> with Logan, since the two were seen holding hands last week at the <em>Big Time Movie</em> premiere last week.

  • Mindless Behavior

    Bringing some swag to the boy band scene, Mindless Behavior's Prodigy, Roc Royal, Ray Ray and Princeton debuted their R&B pop-infused album <em>#1 Girl</em> last September. The second single off the album, "Mrs. Right," landed at No. 1 on BET's 106 and Park three weeks in a row. The group recently <a href="" target="_hplink">debuted the video</a> for their newest single "Hello," with coordinated outfits and smooth dance moves to match.

  • The Wanted

    The Wanted, a group of five Irish-British cuties have caught attention on the American charts with their single "Glad You Came." Currently at No. 4 on the Billboard chart, the boys are also <a href="" target="_hplink">in talks</a> to get a walk-on role in the film adaptation of hit U.S. TV series <em>Entourage</em>.

  • Allstar Weekend

    Before headlining their own shows, Allstar Weekend went on tour last summer with Selena Gomez and The Scene. Zach Porter, Cameron Quiseng and Michael Martinez released their album <em>All The Way</em> last September, and headlined the Florida Strawberry Festival on March 10 with Rodney Atkins.

  • Heart2Heart

    Old meets new in Heart2Heart, a group that was created and mentored by former boy-bander Lance Bass. Their first single, "Facebook Official," talks about making your relationship legitimate via the social networking site. Many people are <a href="" target="_hplink">skeptical</a> of the band's legitimacy, as the group's frontman David Lehre is a filmmaker who has a history of creating boy band parody videos.

  • Midnight Red

    Lady Gaga super-producer RedOne launched a boy band last year called Midnight Red. This past summer, they toured with boy band legends New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys. The quintet's debut single, "One Club At A Time," was selected as one of three National Dance Day Songs in association with <em>So You Think You Can Dance</em>'s National Dance Day.
