Simon Cowell: 2 New Candidates Emerge In 'X Factor' Judge Search

With new rumors about "The X Factor" judge search popping up on a seemingly daily basis -- rumored candidates have included Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, the late Whitney Houston and LeAnn Rimes -- Simon Cowell provided a few hints about the progress of the talent show's search. In an interview with "Good Day New York," (weekdays, 7 a.m. ET on Fox) Cowell addressed the recent report that the show had offered Spears a $10 million contract to join the show, only to be met with a $20 million counter offer.

On the Spears rumors, Cowell kept his answer vague. "You'll have to wait and see ... I can't confirm or deny anything right now. The truth is that we are talking to a number of people," he said.

Cowell got a bit more specific when he hinted that two new candidates entered the picture very recently. "It changes on a daily basis," he continued. "You think you've got your mind made up ... Last night two other people threw their names in the hat, one a very famous singer and one a very famous actress."

The famously gruff Cowell remained diplomatic when he was asked why judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul were fired. "They weren't fired," he insisted, "they just weren't invited back." Explaining host Steve Jone's departure, Cowell quipped, "Too many Brits on the show ... One Brit allowed."
