Craig Ferguson incorporated a new element into his now-classic awkward pauses at the close of interview segments on "The Late Late Show." When he was asking Jason Segel about his sexual fantasies, Segel had a somber story and a very simple fantasy.
"So my last girlfriend was like a long time ago," he said. "I'm gonna say we're coming close to eight years since a proper girlfriend. What I miss most is cuddling."
Cue the audience "Aww!" But at this, Ferguson immediately turned to them in disappointment. "You didn't fall for that?" he asked them. "Really? Unbelievable."
Meanwhile, Segel was repeating, "Nailed it!" audience manipulation at its finest. Which isn't to say that he doesn't miss cuddling. When as a joke Ferguson suggested ending their awkward pause with cuddling, Segel said, "I'm in."
And so after a few moments of fidgeting around, they transformed an awkward pause into an awkward cuddle. The dynamic of guest chair to host chair with desk in between isn't exactly conducive to quality cuddling time, but if Segel's cuddle dry spell is truly eight years, he probably appreciated the gesture just the same.
