Nikki Haley Updates Records Policy

Haley Makes History With Latest Update

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has agreed to preserve a broad range of documents, including emails between the governor and her staff, under a new policy that represents a first for a chief executive of the state.

Haley's office and the state archives agency signed the document this week. It is the first time in the four-decade history of the state Public Records Act that a governor has signed a comprehensive records retention policy specific to the office, said Eric Emerson, director of the Department of Archives and History.
