Amy Koch Affair: Michael Brodkorb, Fired Minnesota GOP Staffer, Threatens To Expose More Affairs

A former Minnesota Senate staffer who claims he was fired because of an affair with former Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch is now saying he intends to expose female staffers who had affairs with legislators and were not fired as part of a potential lawsuit.

Michael Brodkorb's lawyer, Phillip G. Villaume, filed a notice of claims seeking more than $500,000 in damages along with attorneys' fees for illegal termination on the basis of gender discrimination. The notice also "reserves the right" to include invasion of privacy claims against three members of the Senate GOP leadership and two Senate staffers.

"Mr. Brodkorb has evidence that similarly situated female legislative employees, from both political parties, were not terminated from their employment positions despite intimate relationships with male legislators," wrote Villaume in a letter dated March 13. "It is clear that Mr. Brodkorb was terminated based on his gender. He intends to depose all of the female legislative staff employees who participated inintimate relationships, as well as the legislators who were party to those intimate relationships, in support of his claims of gender discrimination."

Villaume said the depositions would be kept private. "I'm sure a judge would order us to keep that information confidential," he said. He declined to say how many staffers and legislators had affairs.

Koch abruptly resigned from her leadership position on December 15, 2011 and announced she would not seek re-election. She claimed her resignation was because the state GOP could not afford a "lame duck leader in negotiations next session." One day later, several GOP colleagues said publicly that she only quit after they confronted her about allegations of an "inappropriate relationship" with a Senate employee.

Koch later apologzied for the affair. In response to the incident, a gay Minneapolis resident penned a tongue-in-cheek letter on behalf of all gays and lesbians in Minnesota apologizing for the affair, as Koch authored an unsuccessful bill to amend the Minnesota Constitution to say that only marriage between a man and a woman would be recognized.

The document claims that Brodkorb was fired at a "public restaurant" by Secretary of the Senate Cal Ludeman on December 16, 2011 over the affair, and that Brodkorb was not offered a transfer or a different position. Brodkorb's identity was not publicly known until Wednesday, when his lawyer acknowledged it.

Ludeman issued a statement defending the firing. "Despite Mr. Brodkorb's efforts to disrupt the work of the Senate in the current legislative session, to distract members of the Senate, to extort a payment from the Senate, and to try his so-called claims in the media, the Senate will not allow that to succeed," he said.

I think he should be fired, and she should as well (had she not resigned).....this isn't acceptable behavior.

Chicks get promoted (or at least cushy treatment) for having affairs. Wicked double standard.

Not all the time. Men have never used sex. Procuring a prostitute would be illeagal.

Funny how so many who vehemently espouse the belief that the sanctity of marriage should only be between a man and woman then demonstrate how little said sanctity means to them.

Not funny so much as sordid and ugly. But that is exactly who is running the country 'right' now.

Not yet the election is in November. Notice she had a R after her name. As for both parties, I agree. Years ago Republican Weicker and Democrate Penny tried to start a third political party based on honor and ethics. Where are they now?

Freekybig53----------------------Great comments , most HPeed. The liberals really are thin skined. They can call others all kinds of names but when they are presented with a ounce of truth they panic. They truly feel that the only way they can win their argument get loud or silence the other person. They are mimicking spousal abusers.

Was Ms Koch able to obtain contraceptive materials through her (taxpayer funded) paid government health plan? Was she required to answer questions about her need for such contraception? Did she have to submit to an 'eyes closed' ultrasound exam? If she ended up preggers, would she be allowed to terminate by her own choice or does a committee review the need?

Was there any dialogue before going to bed together about family values or traditional marriage?

Just wondering ...

I bet there are more than a few married MN State Senators who are extremely nervous every time they see anyone that looks like a process server....................
Doubt this guy can prove it was gender discrimination, but this suit is a very smart tactic to either get his job back or a huge cash settlement. Every Senator that has had any inappropriate contact with a staffer is going to pressure the leadership to reach a settlement. Just imagine if they have to take a recorded, public vote about this! Fun times.

The irony is that Ms Koch coauthored a bill to amend the state constitution to read that marriage must be between a man and a woman to be a recognized domestic union .... Gotta love those Republican Christian family values ... so 'consistent' ...

Maybe she and Herman Cain can start a business together called "Hypocrisy R Us" ...

Boy, oh boy. Republicans took over our state house and senate in 2010 and it's been nothing but a sham. Staffer affairs, lies, missing funds, nothing getting done, stadium bill debacle. It's been pretty embarrassing. Gee, I wonder what the elections in 2012 will bring? I believe that we'll get back to some sanity once these clowns are gone and the witch from the sixth flies away on her broomstick.
