Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Post 50 Actresses On The Today Show Speak Out (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/15/2012 9:12 am Updated: 03/16/2012 2:06 pm

French actress Emmanuelle Beart is just one of the few celebrities speaking out on her regret of going under the knife some 20 years ago.

The "Mission Impossible" star told French newspaper Le Monde,“I had my mouth done at 27. It was botched ... Today I would say, ‘I am against plastic surgery ... It’s a grave act. An act that touches our soul. It was frightening.”

The issue of whether or not to go under the knife or to age naturally is a growing concern amongst the post-50 community.

Recently, HuffPost 50 sparked a debate that put plastic surgery and aging trends in the spotlight.

Filmmaker and activist, Susan Hess Logeais spoke out against cosmetic enhancement, asking: "And are we only physical forms? Is it wise to focus so much attention on our shell that we lose our connection to the greater source that animates us all?"

Her challenger, Deborah Gaines argued: "No one is opposed to aging gracefully -- that would be like saying you're against world peace."

Watch the above video to find out which celebrities wish they could take back the decision to fight aging with cosmetic surgery.

Editor's Note: In the video above from the "Today Show," the "after" photo purportedly of Jennifer Grey is actually of Jennifer Westfeldt.

But it isn't only her lips. Her entire face has been stretched back.

How interesting that a survey about "work" post-50 is attached to an article about botched work done in her 20s. All "work" looks bad after the rest of the face goes bad, but the lesson to be learned is don't have work done when you are YOUNG!

BTW, lip jobs are the worst. They ruined Melanie Griffiths looks, they ruined Barbara Hersey's looks, they ruined Emmanuele Beart's looks. Just DO NOT get work done on your lips.

She's fine. The mouth, the skin, the highlights... all of it. It's the Dr's in the US I worry about. ANY MD can do Cosmetic Surgery! Your eye doctor, who may have slept through anatomy class and may have graduated at the bottom of his med school from an island somewhere, can suddenly decide he wants to perform Cosmetic Surgery to make money. What is THAT about? Women, check your MD credentials. Sincerely - she who is looking forward to a natural, excellent, non-cat-woman facelift in 20 years and maybe a laser or two sooner than that.
It's like most things... you have to research, be an advocate for yourself, and figure out what you are doing before you do it.

Wouldn't it be liberating if they felt they didn't have to do it! And then we could all benefit from the example they set. A whole new culture could spring from this courageous act.

Interesting choice of words. When she did it all those years ago, it was damaging to my soul.

Check out "Manon des sources" again. Breathtakingly beautiful. ESPECIALLY the lips. http://image.toutlecine.com/photos/m/a/n/manon-des-sources-1986-04-g.jpg

Agreed - Beart was stunningly gorgeous in that film.

Have to wonder why she tried surgery - at 27 years, she wasn't having a mid-life crisis. Maybe just pressures to be more perfect?

Yeah, it would have been nice to know why she took that path, but she is not telling us, nor is she necessarily against the idea of plastic surgery - just that hers was botched.

God made us in his own image.
You do NOT have to undergo plastic surgery or botox in order to improve your looks. Everybody is beautiful. It is all in our minds.

Everybody is not physically beautiful. And cosmetic surgery is done, at least sometimes, for true disfigurement.
01:31 PM on 03/16/2012
In my opinion, unless you have a legitimate medical necessity for plastic surgery, if you're stupid enough to try to alter your appearance, you deserve what you get.

Collin County Texas has to be among the highest ranked areas in the country for the number of altered women per capita. It is disgusting what some women do to try to be someone they are not.
