T.J. Lane, Ohio School Shooting Suspect, Had Troubled Family, Records Show

T.J. Lane, the suspect in the Chardon High School shooting, came from a troubled family, according to court records.

CHARDON, Ohio -- Newly released court records underscore the troubled family life of a 17-year-old Ohio boy charged in a school shooting rampage that killed three students.

Records released in Chardon say T.J. Lane's father challenged his paternity in 1995, but tests showed there was a 99 percent chance he's the father.

That year, the father asked for temporary custody because the toddler's mother was in jail for violating probation on a domestic violence charge.

He's facing a hearing next month on whether he will be tried as an adult on aggravated murder charges in the Feb. 27 attack. His lawyer has said Lane's family is "devastated" by the shootings.

I don't think many people know the actual drive or cause it takes for any person to murder someone. Be it insanity or just wanting to try it. His upbringing could be a factor. Maybe no one did listen to him. He needed a voice. It's sad that those lives were lost but maybe they could have deserved it. We learned that from Columbine. Even if he denies the theory of being bullied, there's still a personal factor to this. The boy should serve time, yes, but doing life isn't going to teach the boy at all, just satisfy Society's thirst. But who knows? I'm just 14. But studying different kinds of killers, I think TJ should be tried as juvenile and serve some time.

Thats it? The dad denied being a dad (knowing full well he was the dad no less, more than likely like they all do) Then asked for custody...? And.......??? Why arent they talking about the constant verbal, mental, and physical abuse this kid endured since the time he was a toddler? It will all come out in the wash......

It's sad for his upbringing however that does not mean you grab a gun and shoot other kids. Life in prison or death. It's fair and its safe as he will never change. He will always be a threat and an expense. Regardless of how insavory the cancers must be cut out of society. That of course will not happen. We will coddle him accept excuses why he is not accountable time after time for decades

Dont agree or disagree. Each individual case is different. I suppose half can be rehabilitated and live among society with no problem and half would be as you say never change. It all depends on several contributing factors such as are they loved by anyone or willing to be loved, are they truly remorseful, a stable healthy home enviroment, and the list goes on.......if he could ever care about himself again determines if he will care enough about you and me not to kill us one day. He did it because he hates himself. No doubt his father taught him how to do that with severe constant daily abuse and shame.
