A New York City toddler with the right touch has made her family $1 million richer.
Afsheen Ahsan, of Queens, credits her 2-year-old daughter, Anaya Hussain, for picking her New York Poker instant scratch-off ticket.
Ahsan says the toddler reached out and touched the ticket on Jan. 30 while they were at the Top Convenience store in Brooklyn.
The mom, an immigrant from Pakistant, didn't have any plans to play the lottery, but she thought it was a good omen when her daughter put her hand on the ticket, the New York Daily News reported.
She has big plans on how to spend the winnings.
"I am happy," Ahsan told the Daily News. "I'm going on vacation, but I have no idea where. I want to start a business too, a grocery store."
Ahsan will receive $31,152 a year until 2031 and plans to share it with her boyfriend, a 40-year-old grocery worker.
The lucky winners posed for photos while holding an oversized check at the Resorts World Casino in Queens, N.Y.
Ahsan's unlikely win stands in stark contrast to story of a group of New Jersey construction workers who frequently bought lottery tickets together. One worker, Americo Lopes, won $38.5 million and kept it secret from his former buddies for months. When they learned of his haul, they sued, alleging that he was supposed to share the jackpot with them. Lopes claimed he bought the ticket with his own money and not with the cash that he pooled with the other. A jury ruled on Wednesday that Lopez had to split his winnings.
