iPads, iPads everywhere! The new iPad, a critics' darling, went on sale at 8 a.m. Friday at Apple stores around the the world.
Long lines of fanboys and girls have been reported at Apple stores in Australia, Germany, the U.K., and Japan. In New York City, Apple Insider reports that the massive line at the Fifth Avenue Apple store stretches "all the way up W 58th Street."
On the West Coast, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and his wife waited in line starting at noon on Thursday at the Westfield Mall in Century City, California. Wozniak told What's Trending's Shira Lazar that they arrived so early because, "We’re used to Northern California where the stores lines start early." Wozniak also said he was "really excited about the really high quality screen and the slightly larger battery."
Although Apple stores have the largest quantities of iPads and offer free setup of apps and email for new tablet owners, there are other places to purchase the device which may offer shorter wait times. According to Macworld, authorized resellers of the new iPad include Walmart, Target, Best Buy, RadioShack and select Sam's Clubs. Verizon and AT&T stores are also selling the WiFi + 4G version for customers also interested in a data plan from one of the carriers.
The WiFi-only devices cost $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB and $699 for 64GB. An iPad with WiFi + 4G connectivity will set you back $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB, and $829 for 64GB. Apple has also knocked $100 off the iPad 2, which is now only available in the 16GB size for $399.
