Starbucks' New Evolution Juice Bar Misspells 'Vegetables'

Posted: 03/19/2012 12:48 pm Updated: 03/19/2012 6:17 pm

Starbucks is opening its first ever juice bar. It's the company's biggest move outside of coffee and has the potential to spread the juice gospel fairly far and wide.

But the company might have a few small kinks it still needs to work out. One of the images that Starbucks is using to promote the Evolution Fresh juice bar has a sign that reads "Most fruits and vegatables [sic] are: fat and cholesterol free." That's right folks -- the giant sign spells "vegetables" incorrectly. Luckily, poor spelling doesn't have to correlate with juice quality.

UPDATE: Starbucks has now removed the promo shot with the misspelling from its multimedia gallery for press. (3-19-12, 6:19pm EST)

i'm a signmaker and printer - even if the copy was received mis-spelled by the client, the shop that produced these posters had a responsibility to proof it too. it's very sad that these made it past everyone involved and no one had the knowledge or gumption to correct it.

The other issue in need of correction is that ALL vegetables and fruits are cholesterol free.

It's Bush's fault.

Even though there is a spell check for the Huffpost comments, I miss an "edit" button here.

Why is there never time to spell check, but always time for corrections and damage control? Few websites or corporate communications are immune from this epidemic.

This is hilarious! Bad spelling may not indicate a poor quality product, but it reaffirms my opinion that StarBUCK$$$ is a poor quality company.

I never thought about the double meaning of "bucks" in Starbucks' name before.

Kudos.

I don't get it, but I've always hated Starbooks anyway...

By definition vegetables don't have and cannot have cholesterol in them! Cholesterol is only found in meat and meat products, not vegetables. Look it up! Nuts can have fat in them. Avacados have fat in them. Of course corn and olives have fat, thus corn oil and olive oil.

It's just advertising hype for the uninformed masses. I regularly see products advertised as "Cholesterol Free", "Gluten Free", "Fat Free", "Nut Free" even "Hormone Free" when the product being promoted never had, or simply couldn't support, those ingredients or it was illegal for them to be there.
If you state your brand of a product is minus something, people will assume that the competitors' versions of that product do contain that something. The buying public aren't too well educated or discerning unfortunately.

Absolutely shocking! This is the first time I have experienced a case of improper spelling on this site. What next, incorrect grammar? Oh the horror, where will it all end?

This is the result you get from students now days graduating from the different school systems. Dumb down the students so they will follow the government's mantra.

Mispelling is all over the place. I see it on news programs, on public signage, and when you say something about correcting it, you're the 'word police', or even better, a 'grammar nazi' - and ridiculed.
11:28 AM on 03/20/2012
You can thank ebonics and phoenetic spelling for that. Instead of teaching kids proper grammar, the schools today don't want to leave the dumbasses out so they dummy up the cirriculum. I hate to see the results in let's say another 20 years or so.

And then they matriculate them; true. That's why the US lags behind other countries with a very faltering educational system. I'm scared to see what the future holds for us with a generation of semi-literates out in the workforce.
