'The Walking Dead': Highlights From The Killer Season 2 Finale (VIDEO)

Video Highlights From 'The Walking Dead' Finale

As promised, the tension and action rose significantly during this second season finale of "The Walking Dead" (Sun., 9 p.m. ET on AMC), and so did the body count. In a taut opening sequence, it was revealed how all those walkers seen shambling toward Rick and Carl came to be there, and then it was almost non-stop action as the farm was overrun.

HuffPost TV's Maureen Ryan praised the finale for bringing some much needed action in place of all the speeches. And the speeches that were here she felt added depth to the characters, particularly Rick's speech to the survivors about his non-democratic position as leader once they regrouped after the attack.

While a few nameless background characters bit the dust, the bulk of the main cast survived to fight another day, regrouping one by one on the highway where they left supplies for Sophia long before the farm was even a reality. Only Andrea didn't make it back to join back up with the group, because everyone else managed to get in a vehicle and she was left on foot.

That also left her more in danger from the walkers, who chased her for a full day as she dispatched them one by one. In the closing moments of the episode, she was down to two of them and managed to take out one. While the other one was on top of her going in for the kill, its head was chopped off by a mysterious hooded figure with two armless walkers in tow.

The closing shot of the season panned up from the ruins as the group was holed up to show a prison yard just beyond the treeline. And so a setting was teased for the third season, which also promises to feature the character of The Governor.

"The Walking Dead" wrapped its second season on AMC at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday.
