Illinois Primary 2012 Results MAP (REAL-TIME DATA)

This is where you'll find the results for the 2012 Illinois Republican primary.

Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts and current frontrunner in the GOP presidential primary, went into the Prairie State contest with a commanding lead in the polls, garnering 44.5 percent of the vote, according to HuffPost Pollster. Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) trailed with 30 percent, while Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House, and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.), had 12.5 percent and 9 percent of the vote, respectively.

The election rules in Illinois are extremely complicated. Voters will actually vote twice -- first for their preferred GOP candidate, and then for delegates to the GOP convention. Illinois has 69 delegates, but only 54 will be awarded on Tuesday. The remaining 15 -- three of whom are party officials -- will be selected at the state convention in June.

The map below, which is updated automatically every five seconds, features county-by-county data from The Associated Press. To see the returns for a specific county, simply click that area of the map.

Jefferson county voted 59.9% for Santorum.

So if you're female or gay or you're not a fundie, you could do a whole lot better somewhere else.

I cannot seem to find the results of the Democratic Party Primary Results. I'd like to see the difference in total Illinois votes for Obama vs, the right's candidates.

The population of Illinois is about 13 million. Less than a million participated in this primary.

That includes about 8 million registered voters. So about 13% of them voted in this primary. Not much enthusiasm.

Areal race would be just Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. I would like to se the others who have no chance to win drop out now. Then it would be a real race!! Romney cant even get 50% of the party voye, I think if it was heads up with just the two men Rick Santorum would win for sure. The others are just pulling votes from the two that have a real chance of becoming the partys choice...

No you id iot! They are meant to be saluted just like I did every morning and every night for four years while I was in the service. They are meant to be treated with respect. If you had a brain in your head or had actually looked at the flag manual you will see it spelled out clear as day. The flag is not meant to be worn as a garment. Try googling it if you can spell flag. PERIOD.

Although Mittens won the primary, from the map above, it appears that most of the state (in area) seemed not to have been bought by Mittens' money.

I can finally plug my phone back in. I got so many calls I purposely voted against the people who called me. I believe if they do not respect my do not call status and my right to privacy when I tell them to take my name off their list and do not call me, then I have no respect for them and I will purposely vote against them.

The only winner so far has been Romney's inability to tell the truth. Paul Krugman argued that Mitt Romney "is running a campaign of almost pathological dishonesty." That need not be considered hyperbole. Furthermore, although his numbers are on the up, all the polls showing losing to the President and NOT by a little. He has told so many lies to so many people, so he can be so many things to so many voters, it's virtually impossible to keep track of all of them. Indeed, Greg Sargent added that Romney's falsehoods and all around dissembling" may be designed to "simply wear reporters and commentators down by trafficking in them so heavily that they throw up their hands and give up on trying to track or debunk them.

What planet are you living on? Bviously not this one called "Earth". Try listening to those who tell you accurate information and not electoral misinformation. Is he perfect? Probably not. Is he saying the garbage that you are claiming? Of course he isn't or other educated and sensible people wouldn't have voted for him by more than 1million votes more than Santorum. In elections people put out a mass of disinformation just to rile up those who will listen to it.
"Wake up and smell the roses" lol.

Well, a Republican Brit American. How about that. Now: listen up mr brit. I have heard with my own ears Mitt tell great Big falsehoods. and you say sensible people voted for him. like you, I suppose. Well, they all get to watch fox news every night and believe all that baloney as well. Finally, you contradicted yourself. go back & read it.
07:58 AM on 03/22/2012
Actually, you are quite wrong again. I am not a Republican. Neither can I vote. I am Britsih. Learn your voting laws!

He received less than 50% of the vote in Illinois... as well as most of the other states he's won. I don't think that this victory will knock the other candidates out. Romney remains a weak, wishy-washy candidate.

"What is he wishy-washy about?"

Equal marriage, women rights, mandated insurance, immigration, etc...

Mittens will say anything to get elected. I hope the GOP feels used because Ricky is probably the only true conservative in the field. Mittens is just catering to the freakish radical GOP voters who are being used in the establishment's game of chess.

PS: The original post had nothing to do with Obama. Don't bring irrelevant rhetoric about a DEMOCRATIC President into the conversation about a REPUBLICAN primary process.

He has no stance on anything. you ask him something one day and then it gets negitive responce and he says I didnt understand the question.

For example: He voted for invasive ultrasounds on women prior to an abortion and then said he didnt understand it was invasive. and he would look at it again.

and whom exactly are you taking this country back from?

Questions: Why do neo-conservatives routinely accuse Democrats, liberals, or progressives of being on federal aid? Too, Why do they assume that other posters have not accomplished much in their lives? Finally, why do neo-cons ignore obvious facts readily obtainable from actually observing GOP candidates?
07:58 AM on 03/21/2012
Looks like Mitt got the Urban vote while Santorum got the bumpkin vote. Santorum is big in rural America where their whole lives are Guns and God. Either way neither of them can make it to the WH. They lost the women's vote as well as the Hispanics. The GOP has to be wringing their hands over what has been the dumbest campaign for the nomination, ever.

The urban v. rural split in the vote is obvious. If, as I believe, Santorum shot himself in the foot by preaching the Vatican party line about birth control - the fact remain that the boondocks still voted for him. It's easy to think that rural goppers are dumber than urban goppers, but until I see the statistics from double-blnded IQ tests, I'm not going to make that assumption.

X 178, LX.......I cannot speak for Illinois Republican demographics, but, IMHO, from having dealt with both urban and rural neo-cons in Texas, the city variety is usually more intelligent and affluent than his or her country counterpart. Like Illinois, Texas can be described as consisting of urban islands of intelligence, education, and affluence, surrounded by a sea of Red State conservatism.....No matter ; Obama by at least 5% in November....Thanks for your post.

Romney will either be the GOP Bagger candidate, or will surely be the man to beat at the convention. Regarding Romney campaign, it must be said that he doesn't stir the voters hearts, even those who are his partisans. His essential automaton-like nature is going to be well nigh impossible to fix. And, after this primary season, any one of these four candidates still standing (?) will be quite unlikely to draw votes from anyone not already affiliated with the party.

i grew up in illinois and you are correct in your assessment of the attitude of folks in the southern half of the state. much like missouri, indiana & ohio & maybe even pennsylvania.
country people have a different kind of approach to life. its not a bad approach; just different. most are the salt of the earth. its just that they believe everything they see and hear on fox news. and they are not dumb. just different. they know better how to be good neighbors. really.

When I was a kid, in the country in NE Ohio, I was dumbfounded when some new neighbors, who spoke with what I would now call a tidewater VA accent, told me they were from Cincinnati, and that that was normal speech there. Later I learned about my part of the state being "New Connecticut", and that the northern part of the state was settled from NY and PA via Lake Erie. While the southern part of the state was settled up the Ohio-Mississippi Rivers. That is, from slave states.

The country-urban split is there too, across all parts.
