Newt Gingrich To Report $2.6 Million Raised In February

After two successive good fundraising reports at the end of 2011 and the end of January 2012, Newt Gingrich will announce that his campaign raised only $2.6 million in February. That fundraising total will likely be the lowest among the four remaining Republican candidates for president. Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have announced that they raised $11.5 million and $9 million, respectively.

Gingrich will also report that he has spent $2.8 million and has $1.5 million cash on hand and $1.5 million in debt. The debt number is $200,000 less than at the end of January. This means that Gingrich essentially spent all of the money he raised in February on his campaign and took $200,000 from cash on hand to reduce his debt.

There will be more to come on Gingrich's financial woes when the campaign officially files with the Federal Election Commission Tuesday.
