The 2 most important things is keeping your skin younger-looking is 1.) WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY!!! 2.) Stop smoking. Those 2 things are the worst offenders of youth-stealing than anything else. Sure, drinking a lot of water, moisturizing your skin, using retinols---they're all good, but if you've baked your skin there's no turning back. Take a look at pictures of women who've smoked all their lives & women who haven't---the pictures say it all. Sure, there's Botox, Juvaderm----but you can only work with what you've got. Premature aging sucks. You can grow old gracefully if you take care of yourself--if you like to live "life in the fast lane", don't expect to look good in mid-life---it will drain the "life" out of you. Oh yeah----sex too!!!

You're right about the quit smoking part. As a black man I notice that so many drop dead gorgeous white women smoke, and I think that's a turn off. However, the jury is still out on whether or not it prematurely ages white women.

Smoking causes severe lines around the lips, from puckering them around a cigarette for so many years. Smoking dries the skin, creates "dirty air", and decreases the amount of oxygen that gets to the skin. If you're having plastic surgery, the one thing the surgeon tells you pre-operatively is to quit smoking, because it delays healing. Some plastic surgeons won't even do surgery on somebody that smokes---if they don't heal well & have a bad result, even though it's because they're smoking, it reflects poorly on the surgeon. The person who smoked certainly wouldn't fess up to the fact that it's because they couldn't stop smoking........It's a dirty, stinky, harmful habit.

As a black man, I notice that a lot of good looking white women smoke. It's a turn off to me, but the jury is still out on whether or not it aged them quicker.

All the war paint you can put on to keep yourslef looking good, really don't make you look that good. Ageing is a part of life and always wins. All these ageing creams and solutions don't make you look younger they make you look silly. Reason why the companies want you to think that make you look good is so they can pocket big bucks off of you. Remember when you die your dead and looks don't count. People will say you just looked wonderfull laying there. I laugh at that as your dead you don't really care how you look.

Beauty tip 101, wash your face, drink alot of water, and stay out of the sun (use sunscreen daily even if not in sun)
12:33 PM on 03/24/2012
There are recent studies that are showing that the use of sunscreen (by itself) can cause skin cancer. Not sure about that tip, as yet.

We are born, we age, we die. But somehow, magically, we can either stop or successfully slow the process down. ?what? Oh we can speed it up, that's for sure. I went through the nursing home ordeal with my mother. By golly, she sure stuck in there for 4 years though. But, mom left about a year before she set foot in the facility. The rest was horrid. The whole place was horrid. It was very clean and the staff were great. I visited regularly and really resented it. My poor mother. I felt so guilty because I'd think it was past her time to go. She didn't know where she was or who I was, or anything!. She had been getting about $400 worth of medicines every month. Then she began to spit out the pills or the nurse would find she hadn't swallowed them. ( mom must have had enough) Pills were on the floor, the bed, or stuck in her cheeks ! I finally told them to stop all meds (heart, bloodpressure, water pills etc.) except for tranquilizers or discomfort. Her doc supported my decision. She was taking very little by mouth anyway, except a bit of food and water. Mom passed quietly while asleep within a weeks time. I think we are striving for a dubious goal by chasing longevity.

Ah yes. Big industry telling people youth comes in a bottle. Sorry, it comes in eating right, exercising, not smoking, not drinking, and not spending too much time in the sun.

I'm 40, and everyone things I'm between 25-28. Here is my secret: (1) I drink 12 cups of water per day (2) I don't use anything on my skin with chemicals. I use natural oils instead of lotion (jojoba, shea butter, etc.) (3) I don't buy processed foods when I go grocery shopping, and rarely eat processed foods except when I eat out or at a friends house (4) I have a Montel Williams Health Master and use it daily to blend veggies/fruits. I am a black male and I am so tired or women telling me my skin is "beautiful". One lady told me my skin glows like a pregnant woman. So, I guess that's a side effect!

Enjoy the glow -- you deserve it. I do basically the same things as you do. I love using Shea butter on my face. I haven't tried jojoba oil yet. Olive oil on your face (as well as in your diet) works too. Enjoy the compliments -- I sure do.

Here's the Real Deal, Part 3

Finally, SKIN NEEDLING, yes it works! (Google it.) This is an ancient acupuncture technique using a small face roller with about 520 micro needles that you roll on your skin. BUT DO IT CORRECTLY. (See YouTube. Never break the skin, that is doing it wrong and don't pay big bucks for salon treatments, get your own roller on Amazon and do it gently at home. It completely stimulates new collagen and other skin regeneration factors. Skin becomes like new, even if badly acne scarred. Be sure to get surgical steel and treat it like a medical procedure including sterilizing hands and equipment, etc.

Care for your skin religiously morning and night. Get the sleep you need. Maintenance is a bitch but is the key to truly luminous skin at any age. Just like anything else you value, you need to battle the daily wear and tear of life. I am 54 and no one can believe it.

You're welcome.

The size refers to the depth it will go. The 2mm are really for the scalp, as needling also helps restore hair in certain kinds of cases. You can get any length and just start very gently, as the 1.5 will go deeper with pressure and you do not want to break the skin. .5 or 1 will work as well, but over time you may want to go up. I just got the 1.5 to save me the money and I do it gently, just enough in each direction to appear as a mild sun burn that is gone by morning. I do this three times a week. You can do it a little more aggressively and it will take about three days and just do it once a week, but never break the skin. Also, your skin is highly absorbent to its deepest layers afterwards, so you have to be VERY CAREFUL not use toxic soup products of any kind or natural solo ingredients that will sting. I use nothing but Xtend Life Nighttime Skin Restorer after needling. THe less expensive alternative is Kiss My Face, that is the only natural brand that is actually natural (skin lotion, at least, that I know).

How often do you do the skin needling? Once a day, a couple of times a week? Also do you then moisturize your skin right after?? I have one, but haven't used it in a long time.

Here's the Real Deal PART 2

Get your AHAs on Amazon in varying strengths (build up to stronger concentrations.) Don't bother buying neutralizer. Save your money and use baking soda and water. It is best to use Retin A in the evenings (Can't go in the sun with it.) and AHAs in the morning. Vary the number of days according to reaction, but remember Retin A can work in 2 weeks if you can tolerate the redness and peeling. It totally subsides at the two week mark. Or, just a small amount over time with no reaction. It still works, but takes about six weeks.

Emu oil (100 percent only) also penetrates to deep layers if you don't want the effects of Retin A.

XTend Life products are the best. Not cheap, but last a long time and mixed in the palm with Retin A and MSM go even farther and are super healing and powerful with no harmful ingredients just super nutrients for your skin. Optional, but brings dramatic results, faster.

Here's the Real Deal PART 1

Check the other ingredients in store brands and even "organics"! Almost every product she named and nearly all others are a toxic chemical soup. Get the primary ingredients on Amazon. (Scroll down here to see the warnings on ingredients. CHECK THE LABEL. Your long term health depends on it. http://www.hallgold.com/toxic-chemical-ingredients-directory.htm

Also, she missed Hyrualonic Acid (used with Retina A, it goes deep. Is what naturally holds moisture in the skin. Even your lips will get plumper, but you must get adequate water, which you should be doing for your skin, anyway.) Also take it orally in combination with collagen supplements. Supplement with Collegen I, II, and III. The best is Neo Cell brand. Inexpensive at vitacost.com.

Liquid MSM (is the basic building-block of skin -- sulfer,) Can be used topically with Retin A as retin a helps other ingredients penetrate. MSM is AWESOME. Very inexpensive in liquid form, I just mix it on my palm with the Retin A..
