Obama Camp Responds To Santorum's Comments About Malia

President Obama's campaign has responded to comments Rick Santorum made about Malia's school trip to Mexico. Stephanie Cutter, deputy campaign manager, told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell that she is "surprised" Santorum would drag the president's children into the political crossfire.

"I think that children, for candidate purposes, have always been off-limits in presidential campaigns, and really any campaign," Cutter said, according to The Hill. "I'm surprised that Rick Santorum wouldn't agree with that."

Santorum offered his critique of Obama's parenting after news got out that Malia, 13, was vacationing in Mexico with classmates.

“What I would say is that the president's actions should reflect what his administration is saying,” Santorum told Glenn Beck on Tuesday, according to The Blaze. “If the administration is saying that it’s not safe to have people down there, then just because you can send 25 Secret Service agents doesn’t mean you should do it. You should set an example. I think that‘s what presidents do. They set an example. And when the government is saying this is not safe, then you don’t set the example by sending your kids down there.”

The State Department has issued travel warnings about parts of Mexico, but the region where Malia was staying was under no advisory. Santorum, a father of seven, said he was just holding Obama to a "higher duty" required of the president.

The White House has an unwritten rule urging the media not to report on the private activities of presidential children but made an exception and released a statement Tuesday after an earthquake hit Mexico to announce that Malia was safe.

Santorum is jealous that he will never be president so he's blabbing about anything he can to make a fuss over, it but picking on kids is pretty low, even for a Republican.

Harry Truman and Bess returned to his humble home in Independence, MO after his term. It had a tiny 1920's kitchen with a green table. George W. lives in a 5 million dollar home. Obama will have a Polynesian hideway on his own island after his dirty work is done.

Obama has a pretty decent house here in Chicago. What makes you think he won't simply come back here in 2017?

Oh my God. Doesn't anyone get the real issue here? The real issue is that we the taxpayers had to pay for that little excursion for Malia and her freinds. We are just trying to find the money everyweek to pay for a tank of gas and the President is allowed to spend our hard earned money on a $1,000,000.00 plus trip to Mexico? Does he really care? Don't get me wrong? I am sure he is not the only President Republican or Democrat that has done this. This is definately a reflection of this mans (Obama) ability to see how wasteful this was to taxpayers across the country. If it were his Money paying for that trip there would have been at least a 2nd thought (no i really think there would not even have been a thought about it happening). I am sick and appalled by this President or any other President sending family or freinds anywhere at our expense. Santorum and all the rest of you republican candidates should be all over this one and in the future find a way for Congress and the Senate to put a stop to these kind of wasteful expenditures. The Taxpayers don't get these benefits? Why should our federal government?

He do huh? Well even doe he havd his on money he wouldn't pay over $2,000,000.00 for a trip for his daughter and 12 freinds and 25 Secret Service Agents. It is a fact he used yours and my money for that trip. How do you feel about him getting something you and I can not have? An unlimited supply of taxpayer dollars to fund these excursions. It pisses me off. Guess you dont care though. Maybe you could afford to food my next vacation. Learn how to spell and get some grammer lessons too.

Just wonder who's taking care of their kids. A Nanny?

Insantorum has really hit rock bottom. Now he's attacking the president's children and the first couple's parenting skills? He may want to play closer attention to that kennel club that he and his scarecrow wife call their kids.

No it is not about attacking the Presidents children? It is about this and every other President being allowed to spend our hard earned tax dollars on trips for his daughter. The report is this cost us a $1,000,000.00 plus to make this trip happen? I don't know about you but I am just scrimping everyweek to keep a tank of gas in my car. If this is not a person out of touch and uncaring about how he spends your taxdollar maybe you should contribute a little more of your money every year to help continue this non-sense. And before you go off on a tangent about me being a right wing fanatic. It is not about that? It is about common sense. Our leaders up there, republican and democrat are out of touch. Wake up.
06:37 AM on 04/01/2012
What makes you think the President can't afford to send his daughter on a vacation? He has money! Could it be that you are jumping to conclusions without the facts, due to your own politics & your dislike of the man?
12:46 PM on 04/04/2012
And TRULY what business is it of YOURS where the President sends his children for vacation. He can send them wherever he freaking wants. I'll bet you didnt say a word when the bush twins were partying and getting drunk on the taxpayers' dime since they ALSO had Secret Service protection. Apparently, YOU LACK COMMON SENSE.

America, wake up and take religion out of politics before you lose ALL your marbles, and decency altogether.
08:46 AM on 03/26/2012
"We" in "America" did not put "religion" into politics. The so-called "politicians" are doing that in desperate attempt to convince the public that they are "Christians" and nobody else, of course, is qualified to make that claim except right wing Republicans. So they go around hollering "Jesus" while HE says to them:

"Depart from me, ye workers of iniquity--I KNOW YE NOT."

This about common sense and the abuse of yours an my hard earned tax dollars. That trip was reported to cost us over $1,000,000.00 plus for his daughter to take. We paid for that trip. He did not. Not one dime came out of his pocket. He has priviledges, but he should not be allowed to abuse them. This President or any President in the recent 25 years I do not think care a flat crap about how they spend your money. Wake up. Or maybe you would like to take a little more per week out of your weekly check to pay for these kind of government excursions? I can barely afford a tank of gas per week.

Yet if Santorum wins, he hill want all of his too many kids protected by the SS...

His parenting skills should not only be in question but his lack of respect for the way he spends our tax dollars should be in question. This trip for Malia is reported to have cost the taxpayers of the United States $1,000,000.00 plus. Why should we have to pay for this kind of trip? If you think it is ok then you should have more taken out of your paycheck everyweek to pay for them. Get a clue. He does not care about how he spends our money day in and day out. None of them in the Federal Government have a clue.

Is Rick worried about the Pope too as he is in Mexico this week?

Another example of how details get lost in GOP arguments. The US has advisories for traveling to parts of Mexico, not all of Mexico.

On a serious note;

Obama will be re-elected, when he first ran for President many of my Black friends said they “would vote for him as it may be the only time in their lives they would have the chance to vote for a black man for president”

They will vote for him again along with many who were too young to vote for Obama in the first election.

Include many Hispanics and Asians.

The Republican dog and pony show is not helping the Republicans.

True enough, we all saw Bush's "parenting skills" when those twins were constantly getting into bars when they were underage. I'm sure Santorum ragged on Bush and his penchant for liquor setting the example.

No?
08:53 AM on 03/26/2012
Yes, Bush and Cheney both are shining examples of parenting skills.
