If it comes down to a choice — sign a consent agreement proposed by Gov. Rick Snyder or face the appointment of an emergency manager to run the city — Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says his choice is clear.
If the governor doesn't have confidence in Bing's leadership, says the mayor, "Then what they need to do is take the position that they don't and bring in somebody else to do it. They need to have the guts to do that. Do it. If that's going to save the city, if that's the best thing for the city, then do it," Bing said Tuesday at a meeting with Crain's editorial board.
