Birthers Sue California Over Candidate Eligibility

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- People who believe President Barack Obama was born in Africa have filed a lawsuit demanding California's secretary of state verify the eligibility of presidential candidates before allowing them on the November ballot.

The suit was filed by Republican primary write-in candidate John Albert Dummett Jr., Markham Robinson of the American Independent Party of California and others. Robinson was among those who claimed in 2009 Obama was ineligible to be president.

Obama has released a birth certificate showing he was born in Honolulu.

The entire thing is, IMO, fuelled by racism. If Obama was white, I really doubt we would be having this conversation. The Baggers know that the overt racism bit won't fly, so they came up with this as a way to try to get him out of office. Hint. It's not working and he is unlikley to be thrown over by the Democrats in favour of another candidate.

is inserted into the story, but no link is made between the "federal probe into passport information stolen from the State Department" which L.Q. was purportedly involved with and the Clinton/Obama/McCain passport debacle. It's just a sleazy, obvious attempt to conflate the two separate items in the minds of non-discerning readers, like you-know-who.

On Sheriff Joe Arpaio declaring Obama's birth certificate, they should look at Joe Arpaio's birth certificate also to find out if he is a natural-born citizen. According to Wikipedia, Joe Arpaio's parents came from Avellino, Italy. According to the Birthers, Joe is not a natural-born citizen. Also according to Wikipedia, Joe was born in Springfield, Ma. , June 14, 1932. Why don't they check Joe's birth certificate to see if that is not forged. Joe put his foot in his own mouth.

The only constituional requirements for natural birth are in concern to the presidency, the vice president in case he would ascend to president in case of death, or impeachment, or possible infirmatety where the sitting president became incapable of his duties.
This 'qualification extends downward to about ten who are in direct line for ascendancy, but not all of those need be ' Natural born', but IF not..they would be inelligeble to hold the office of President'
Therefore, Arpaio's citizenship is a mute argument, and I believe he'd be qualified as Sheriff even if he, himself, had been naturalized as a US citizen.
Seems it's YOU who got your foot caught, but it figures... Now, as your pennance, why don't you go read the 12 th, and 16 th amendment's?

It's all irrelevant because McCain was not born in the U.S. and neither was George Romney who ran for president in 1968. The Congressional Research Service has determined someone doesn't have to be born in the U.S. to be a natural born citizen. It's debatable perhaps but since evidence is overwhelming that Obama was born in Hawaii, you are obviously cherry picking.

Personally I'm glad president Obama won over McCain in some aspects and if Obama was running against McCain again I would vote for Obama again if I voted at all.
Obama has messed up a lot. he has done some good but he has not brought all the troops home that could have saved American and middle eastern lives, and could have saved Americans trillions of dollars. if he had done what he said he would, this issue would not be an issue that bad. these birther's are trying to do what they can to get him out, they are going about it the wrong way. the problem is not his BC, I don't care if Obama was born on the moon the problem is the legislation does not prove anyone is eligible. but at least people are aware of the government not doing their job instead of ignoring it. and before any ones asks how do I figure government is not checking eligibility. Obama and McCain would not have had to send for there BC. They would already have them to show.
I think all people that are running for president should prove they are eligible. I was disappointed a lot to find out after all theses years before Obama, that they were not doing that for any presidential candidate. and this issue alone needs to be fixed there needs to be a federal LAW stating a presidential candidate must prove with out any doubt he/she is eligible.

There were *no* hearings. There was a simple straightforward Resolution confirming his NBC status for those few fools (one a member of the Constitution Party, no less) who doubted it.

John McCain did not have to appear anywhere clutching his BC. In fact, he showed it to one reporter.

It was not made available for inspection like Obama's was.

It was not photographed and no copy of it has ever been posted on a website or shown by any other media (eg print/tv/book).

Don't forget there was a White House presser where at least one copy of the BC was passed around. None of the reporters present (including Les Kinsolving of WND) reported the document was made up out of bits of other BC's. The certified copies were accompanied by correspondence between the White House and the Hawaii DoH.

When Obama released his 'short' form COLB in June, 2008, it was available for inspection at his campaign HQ in Chicago.

Short of candidates ordering up a certified copy for each and every voter, it's difficult to imagine what would be an acceptable form of 'release' rather than 'showing' would be acceptable to you.

Here's an idea. Contact YOUR favored candidate, and persuade him to 'release' his BC in the manner you deem acceptable.

You're confusing these birth-brained bozos with the rest of us in Calif. I work in a DMV field office and every single day I see birth certificates that have been amended due to parents changing names, parents forgetting how they spelled the child's name on the birth certificate vs social security....ie Tiffany vs Tiffani. Or just plan undecided on the "given name" and forgetting to add it to the birth certificate until I pointed out the missing names. Poor kid has been legally "Burnside" for 17 1/2 yrs and no one caught it til last week.

This latest stunt is nothing more than a way to waste our courts time and money. If there was ever a time for birther control, now is it. ; )
