'iPhone 5' Display To Be Bigger Than Current iPhone: Rumor

Iphone 5 Display

First Posted: 03/21/2012 8:56 pm Updated: 03/22/2012 5:32 pm

SEOUL (Reuters) - Apple Inc's new iPhone will have a sharper and bigger 4.6-inch "retina" display and is set to be launched around the second quarter, a South Korean media reported on Thursday.

Sales of the iPhone, first introduced in 2007 with the touch screen template now adopted by its rivals, account for around half Apple's total sales.

Apple has decided on the bigger 4.6-inch display for its next iPhone and started placing orders to its suppliers, the Maeil Business Newspaper said, quoting an unnamed industry source.

Its major display suppliers LG Display and Samsung Electronics Co declined to comment.

Samsung, which is also the biggest challenger to Apple in smartphones, uses 4.6-inch OLED display for its flagship Galaxy S II smartphone, introduced in April last year.

The high-definition "retina" display--containing several times as many pixels within the same area-- is used in the latest iPad released earlier this month.

The latest iPhone 4S was introduced in October last year.

So, that's 1" longer than the current display. Yah, I think they should focus that more on the iPod Touch than the phone. I can fit my phone comfortably in my back pocked which is great! I wouldn't carry anything larger as a phone. 4.6" display is getting into small tablet zone. I think that's great, too. I'm sure there's folks that want something a little smaller than an iPad and a little larger than the iPhone: but what they want to buy isn't a phone, in that case. I have to wonder if Steve Jobs would have prevented this from happening...

Samsung makes iPhone components, then sues them when they get caught copying their design. If that's not a conflict of interest, I don't know the meaning of the term.

Just get an Android, much better.

They are pieces of _crap. Two of my friends switched, and while the body was solid, they both had huge problems with synching and with battery life and the keyboard was lousy, so they both switched back to the 4s.

Not gonna happen. They'd do better to release a iPhone nano. Who the hell ants an iPad mini phone. Dumb. Big is not better.

I like the fact that my iPhone is not as big as the Galaxy phone and I don't want a tablet in my pocket. Hopefully there will remain an option in the smaller size going forward.
10:13 AM on 03/23/2012
Wow it will look like a phablet? I love it ... Half smartphone/half tablet. I love apple products and I do love the new Samsung Note too (it's probably the only Android smartphone I like). I still have my Iphone 3 since the first gen it came out, I might get the BIG IPHONE 5 if its screen is larger than iphone 4/4s

OMG you mean that the iPhone will try and catch up at least in some small way to all of its competitors sometime in the future?!!!!.... or you can go out and get an Android phone which is the equivalent of the iPhone 12. If you follow the Apple phone /Pad trend you will spend $5000 over the next 5 years...or you can be tech savvy and get all the features the iPhone wishes it had for $500 right now.... Android Samsung or HTC why wait for the iphone future
3D screen, 3D video, Full HD, Big screen , surf any web site on the internet, download movies /music for free, surround sound and did I mention Dual processors with next generation Quad processors.
When will Apple get any of theses features? 2020?

Oh Brother!!! You ll make a great spokesperson ... I was reading your comment and I swear I could picture that Android phone in my hands already lol, you almost convinced me but I had to be strong and resist the temptation ... I ll wait for Iphone 12, I buy phones every 3 years not every year

funny how the iPad has outsold its competition.

the iPhone has sold very well also.

it appears buyers purchase based on the total product experience, instead of a few specs.

This Daisey was called out as a falsifier by NPR, which retracted Daisey's story for
"significant falsifications." Daisey has lost all credibility.

No! NPR was called out for its failure to verify. Daisey is an artist and stated that it was dramatized but based on fact. Once again you are a liar.
01:00 PM on 03/23/2012
The linked article starts out saying about Daisey: "his credibility in tatters". As with those who rely upon him for facts or truth. Don't tell me - CNet will now be on your Enemies List with me.

buzz, buzz, buzz is just like wolf, wolf, wolf. Meanwhile Apple gets rich off of slave labor and tells the US where to put it when it comes to paying for using our assets and our markets. Apple can keep 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 ....you get the drift.
09:55 AM on 03/23/2012
And the computer and keyboard you are using right now is not a product of slave labor? Flip your keyboard and read underneath it ... Kabammm! Yes Made in CHina

Did you flip your computer keyboard or your laptop and read what it says underneath .... Wait ....It says Made in CHINA... WOW ... Are u surprised?

"Products from abusive slave drivers dont appeal to me." is it like a catch phrase for all the Androids lovers ? Copy and Paste, huh

Get an Android instead.
08:20 AM on 03/23/2012
Get an android if you like lots of customization options, lag, and crashes. Get an iphone if you're ok with a little less control but you want a phone that works well and has good battery life. Customer satisfaction with the Apple's smartphones is way higher than for any android manufacturer.

I am counting down the days until my contract is up on my Android phone. It's garbage.
03:42 AM on 03/23/2012
My first iPhone lasted from launch in 2007 to 2011, when I got the 4S. I probably could still use it. Best design of a phone I've come across yet.
10:04 AM on 03/23/2012
I still use my iphone 3 since today it s been 3 years and counting... Never heard a single problem
