Mitt Romney’s Etch-a-Sketch Disaster

Mitt Romney Etch A Sketch

Posted: 03/22/2012 2:57 pm

I’ve been thinking about this all night: Eric Fehrnstrom’s etch-a-sketch gaffe yesterday may go well beyond a momentary embarrassment and become a campaign-defining disaster, much as John Kerry’s “I voted for it before I voted against it” gaffe–which came at almost exactly the same point in that campaign, as Kerry locked down the nomination–was in 2004. This is true for several reasons:

For Joe Klein...
Imo, you have overreacted to this etch a sketch thing.
You write:  "Most obviously, this was a classic _Kinsleyan gaffe — an inadvertent blurting of the truth — that goes to the very heart of the character problems that have _bedeviled _Mitt _Romney throughout this campaign."

If, as you suggest, it speaks to _Romney's lack of character, then it must have  Read More...

This will only remain an issue on HP, it will not effect Romney at all. However, Santorums comments will definitely effect him negatively.

Notice it comes with a left and right button. Draw it anyway you like, Romney will be the nominee. And then you can draw him sitting in the White House.

This "gaffe" was caused by an aide----not by Mitt Romney himself. I said it before the Republican campaign began and I will say it again----Mitt Romney will win the nomination because he is the best qualified and most trustworthy of the Republican candidates. People across the country were mad that I wasn't supporting Newt Gingrich. But look at what he has done----nothing. Ron Paul? The same. Rick Santorum has kept all of the lections close, but he has lost almost every important and large one. As for who will win the presidential election, that is up in the air right now.

NEWS ALERT - Geppetto's Workshop, Disney World Friday, March 22nd 2011

In a hastily called press conference, Pinocchio has withdrawn his endorsement of Republican Presidential Candidate, Mitt 'Etch-A Sketch' Romney. Addressing a throng of International media, Pinocchio stated: "I have known Mitt Romney for a long time. I had long considered him a protege of mine despite the fact that the workshop he came from was in the closed confines of Salt Lake City's pointed Mormon Temples. While Mitt appears wooden just like me, his shape-shifting sugggests that the claymation figure came from a Pottery Barn of some kind enabling a level of deception that frankly I am uncomfortable with. Lying is one thing, what Romney is doing is quite troublesome and maybe even Satanic.".

Sigh...if we only had an Etch-a-Sketch that could erase all the mistakes President Obama has made the past 3 years. Romney's going to be fine in spite of all the negative news media hype against him.
11:49 AM on 03/23/2012
In your opinion, Romney's favorability has plummeted since the start of the primary, he's between 35 and 43%, President Obama even beats him in Virgina by 10 points, put Bob McDonnell on the ticket Romeny loses Virgina by even more. Your hatred of the President is just that, your hatred, along with your FOX consuming right wing friends, this Etch-a-Sketch visual is deadly and Romeny's senior campaign manager provided the weapon.

I do not hate President Obama, in fact I like him. He's just a lousy president. I get most of my news from CNN and some FOX---certainly not MSNBC, who never met a liberal they didn't like.

What mistakes? RomneyCare? What else? Killing bin Laden (I know you guys hated that)? Saving the auto industry (Again, a terrible mistake for Romney supporters)? Tell us Linda: We're waiting.
04:13 PM on 03/23/2012
Geez, I don't have the time to educate you on Obama's numerous mistakes! We'd be here forever! Look it up on the Internet, there's a plethora of material if you are have your mind open and really want to know. Hint, don't bother to go to biased websites such as Media Matters.

Being in advertising, I can't think of a better way to illustrate Mitt's flip, flops. Just render every position he has ever taken from health care, to Planned Parrenthood, to being for high gas prices, shake the "etch-a-sketch" and it all falls away, than render his current positions shake the "etch-a-sketch" and they fall away. If the Obama's people don't use this gift, there negligent.

Mitt Romney is the most fundamentally dishonest and utterly hollow man to ever seek the Presidency of this country. As if his reputation as a shape-shifting political chameleon were not enough, a leader in his own campaign essentially acknowledges that the man reputed to have no core principles or values is actually indeed quite a s 'Sketchy' character. Romney is unacceptable.

Romney is a liar. A pants-on-fire, nose-is-as-long-as-a-telephone-wire liar. Period. You can't be a liar and still claim to have ethics, integrity, loyalty, or any of the attributes that befit the POTUS.
10:33 AM on 03/23/2012
Romney is a liar and a there is no better device to illustrate it, than the gift his own campaign adviser give us.

I think the statement was emblematic of what truly is a bigger disease of a Republican presidential campaign and a Republican Party that is steeped in cynicism and betrays a contempt for facts, a contempt for truth, a contempt for principled consistency, a contempt for American traditions and institutions and a P.T. Barnum-like contempt for the average American voter that you'd expect from a party that thinks it's found the secret to creating its own reality.

Fix "news" is the secret to creating an alternate republican reality.

The right only listens and watches it own media and there fead BS 24 hours a day. They actually think their extreme positions are favored by the majority and this will undo them.

One thing's indisputable, Romney's as stiff and plastic as the Etch-A-Sketch and I'm betting if he doesn't win the nomination, he'll be forgotten as quickly as a picture which has been erased from one.
10:37 AM on 03/23/2012
I want him to win, the Etch-A-Sketch is a gift, it's the perfect way to illustrate what a phony this man is without being nasty.

So does Bain own Etch-A-Sketch yet?
09:47 AM on 03/23/2012
Ironically, Bain owns Toys R Us which Etch a Sketch claims is the main reason that they will not give raises to the Chinese who are paid 24 cents per hour to make it after Etch a Sketch production was moved offshore in 2000. Formerly made in the USA
