World's First Diamond Ring: 150 Carats Of Pure, Unadulterated Bling (PHOTO) (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 03/22/2012 3:24 pm Updated: 03/22/2012 5:21 pm

If diamonds are a girl's best friend, this must be a girl's personal flying, cupcake-baking magical unicorn.

I mean, look at this ring.

Made by Swiss luxury jewelers Shawish, the makers are heralding it as the "world's first diamond ring."

Valued at approximately $68 million and weighing in at 150 carats, the ring is made entirely out of a cut and finished diamond.

We thought Kim Kardashian's $2 million dollar rock was huge, but clearly there's always a bigger fish.

But this still begs the question: Who could possibly be enough of a diva to rock such intense bling?

Looks like Snooki's already spoken for. But maybe this could serve as a heads up to Scott Disick in case he ever decides to propose to Kourtney Kardashian.

For more equally unforgettable and unaffordable blingage, head over to Splash News for a look at their 10 most expensive celebrity engagement rings.

so beautiful, Too pretty, but I think this is certainly not comfortable to wear, as the collection was good, and a big diamond.

No person should own it . It belongs on display so those who see it can only wish they had it. That would make a statement that no one person is more important than another in this world.

It looks like it would be uncomfortable to wear, but I suppose you would only wear it out in public at some big event, for the publicity, like Liz Taylor used to wear her jewels.

Speaking of Liz Taylor...I think I read her jewels were kept in a safe, taken out only a few times a year for insurance purposes, and she needed to have security guards with her when she went anywhere wearing her diamonds/pearl/emeralds.

While beautiful, the only reason I'd ever wish to own such a thing would be IF countless died towards the original diamond's excavation. I tend to gravitate towards relics of sorrow, which may be why I would adore owning a piece of land amongst Japan's Sea of Trees...over 500 suicides, and more each day. Something about the beauty in sorrow has always lured me...and such an item, being as gorgeous as it is and yet attached to such pain, would simply be one hell of an item to own. Sad for those whom may, or may not, have perished for it...but now that it's already made...if such a history exists...that makes it exceptional in my eyes. Something to be cherished, and in turn, honor those whom may or may not have died for it.

Of course not, it just gives you the power to manipulate vagina...but only if you make it seem like an honor to wear it, whilst retaining the fact that it can't be kept for whatever the reason. Just make sure that the reason makes it seem like you wish you COULD let her keep it, but such isn't in your power.

Excellent point.

Better not lose that baby in the sink or toilet! It's not like you can run out and buy a cheap knock-off to fool your hubby!

Diamonds kill far more Africans than Kony ever did. Just say no to the diamond cartel.

Also, how heavy is that ring? I don't really like the way it looks and i'm sure it would be heavy to wear around all day.

carat is a weight. Do you mean the weight of dead African child soldiers souls? There's a huge amount of that weight buying something like that.

Nan, 5 carats equals 1 gram, so this stone/ring of 150 carats weighs 30 grams, which in turn translates to 1.058 oz. One pound is 16 oz., so this ring weighs just over 1/16th lb.

As a gemologist I think this is a really cool idea, but as a gemologist I also know that this can only be put in a display case and admired because diamond is, as has been pointed out, hard but also brittle and this ring will simply shatter upon impact. Completely unwearable. but cool

Really? I thought diamonds were the hardest substance on earth? This is a real question, I was just curious.

They most definetly are in their natural natural form. I assume he is stating that since it has been cut in such a fashion it will not be as strong as it started out. My grandfather was a jewel crafter and even owned a jewelry store back in the day. He taught me a little about the business and stones, but I am far from an expert. I would also assume the ring would be wearable at least on special occasions. I do know that the owner wouldn't dare want to break it! It is a beautiful stone and I'm sure it will make some wealthy person's wife very happy some day. Personally, after the conflict in africa and seeing the destruction of modern enviroments like freetown and the death these stones have brought I think diamonds no longer represent love. It's hard to buy into that sales pitch by De Beers once your fully informed of the attrocities that natural resource had on an entire country.

Nan, you are correct. Diamonds are hard but they are also brittle and like all crystals they have grain. Think of it this way - your skin is not particularly hard but it takes a real beating so it's pretty tough. Hardness can be thought of as a resistance to scratching. Toughness is a resistance to impact. In a way glass has some of the same properties. That's why, in the old I think Lincoln, car commercian there was a diamond cutter sitting in the back seat cleaving a diamond with a wedge and a mallot. So, with that thought in mind, this ring can never withstand the stress of daily life. Think of the impact one makes on counter tops, or opening a door.
