Chicago Area Cats, Dogs & Other Pets Up For Adoption (3/23) (PHOTOS)

As the Chicago area celebrates the official arrival of spring, many local pets continue to await the possibility of finding their "furever" homes in animal shelters -- and paying them a visit during a break from spring cleaning sounds like a worthwhile weekend adventure to us.

Below is HuffPost Chicago's latest group of local cats, dogs and rabbits currently up for adoption. To our knowledge, all animals included in the roundup are spayed or neutered, microchipped and up-to-date with their tests and vaccinations.

If this slideshow doesn't satisfy your cute animal fix, be sure to check out past features linked below the gallery either by scrolling down or clicking here. Many of the previously featured animals remain homeless -- those whom we've heard have already been adopted are noted with a "Spoken For!" tag.
