Victoria's Secret angel Candice Swanepoel is a natural fit for the brand's swim campaign: "I'm so obsessed with the beach," she explained, nestled inland at the penthouse of the Gansevoort Park Avenue. "I grew up about two hours from the beach [in South Africa]. I would love to actually live on the beach."
Swanepoel may get her wish soon. The blonde beauty recently purchased a home in Brazil, the country that also served as the inspiration for the new line of brightly colored bikinis, "I've been going there since I was 17" she says of the country. And, it doesn't hurt that Swanepoel's boyfriend of six years, Hermann Nicoli, is from Brazil as well. "He's crazy about being active, surfing and always running around," she says of her boyriend's beach-appropriate workout. Not to be outdone, Swanepoel adjusts her workout routine for summer as well. "I'll try to run on the sidewalk because it's nice to see everyone out and doing stuff."
When she's feeling - ahem - tired ("In Brazil we have a lot of fun and then the next day I'm like ughhh"), Swanepoel relaxes by the beach by reading and listening to music. "I just watched 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' and I can't wait to finish the book," she said, confessing she also has another serial-novel-turned-film on her mind. "I'm dying to see 'The Hunger Games,' too."
But, movies and modeling take the backseat to her true passion. "Music rules my life," Swanepoel proclaimed, "I can't go anywhere without music. With so much traveling, it's so nice to have a soundtrack to your life." What is the supermodel currently listening to? "This [Belgian-Australian] artist called Gotye. He's amazing and relaxing. I have a lot of Brazilian music. I listen to a lot of reggae, a lot of electronica, as well, and I just started listening to country. I saw that movie 'Country Strong.' Oh my God. Amazing. I was like 'wow.'" A fan of Gwyneth Paltrow's musical transition, Swanepoel confessed she might be adding a hyphen to her career description sometime soon. "Secretly I wish I was a pop star. I really do. I'm always around the house singing. I mean, I have the look! With a lot of lessons, maybe."
