Macy Gray Releases Album Of Covers (AUDIO)

Smoky voiced Macy Gray released her newest album Covered on Monday. Expectedly, the majority of the album is covers, with remakes of a wide range of songs like Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters," Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly," and the Arcade Fire's "Wake Up."

A few sites, like Stereogum, have tracked down some of the tracks. Unfortunately, Gray doesn't really add anything to the songs, which is usually what makes a great cover. Her identifiable voice is really the only interesting part of the covers, which are essentially basic, radio edit-sounding versions of the originals.

This version is a version she sang in 2011, not the CD version, please HuffPost get the NEW and improved "Wake Up" version. It has drums and it is very happy and dancy, all the versions are completely different from the original.

Macy Gray has sang most of the songs on her new album before, but the cd has completely new and different versions from her live performances of them in the past.

I'd like to hear a clearer version. That aside, most of Mary J Blige's covers are faithful to the original (yes, sometimes too faithful a la "I'm Going Down"), so we get to hear what her voice does to the song. Sometimes it's good not to reinvent the wheel.
