Barbara Scott Buried Husband Bennie Scott In Herb Garden For Three Months

Herbgarden
Cops say Barbara Scott buried her husband in this herb garden for three months and kept it a secret.

She took "pushing up daisies" way too literally.

Florida woman Barbara Scott, 64, didn't just keep the death of her husband a secret, she failed to mention that 77-year-old Bennie Scott was buried in her herb garden.

Bay News 9 reported that the woman buried her husband in the backyard of their Lake Alfred home, and then told friends for three months that he was either in Oklahoma or had throat problems and couldn't talk.

Barbara Scott's daughter became suspicious, reeled in a confession and talked her mom into telling police on Tuesday.

"[Scott] seemed calm, almost relieved that it was coming to a close," Polk County Sheriff's Captain Jim Elensky told the station.

The Associated Press reported that the body was dug up that day from a grave 3 to 4 feet deep.

The cause of Bennie Scott's death wasn't immediately apparent, and no charges have yet been filed.

Hey, Mom? Does this cilantro taste a little funny to you?

Yea, I know, that pun was utterly tasteless.

This is so sad. I don't think she killed him, but rather couldn't live without his Social Security check, as most seniors are in this position. They haven't charged her yet, so maybe she told them he just died and she burried him. Life for seniors is so horrible and very sad.

People used to burry relatives right on their own property all the time. I don't see a problem with it - long as they get em down deep enough. Why pay for a cemetary plot when you have your own land? Probably the mortuary/cemetary lobby.

I heard that years back my home state (Illinois) had a law that you had to buy a coffin even if you were getting cremated. Probably go for the inexpensive pine model in that case ;^)

You can use an old cardboard refrigerator box if you want to cremate someone. You don't need to buy a coffin. Although funeral homes don't want you to know that.

And, BTW, they most expensive coffins are on the top/first floor. If there are more underground levels then the next least expensive coffins will be on the second floor. The cheapest will be on the lowest floor with the poorest lighting. Maybe even a naked light bulb. I kid you not.

The only real crime would be if she was collecting SS on him and continued to do so, as well as illegal burial. People have to be properly 'prepared' so that they don't cause disease as they rot. Otherwise (after he was prepared for burial), if she wanted, this woman could bury him in a box in her yard if she so chose. This is sweet, wierd, and sad...all at the same time.

It probably would have been OK to bury him in the herb garden if his name was Herb.
