House GOP: Rape Prevention Measures An Unreasonable Luxury

House Gop Rape Prevention

On Wednesday, as most of official Washington was fixing its gaze squarely on the Supreme Court, the House Committee on the Judiciary convened a hearing on another issue: the supposedly posh conditions at the Department of Homeland Security's immigrant detention centers. The hearing, dubbed "Holiday on ICE" by chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas), focused on the idea that Obama administration rules intended to prevent sexual abuse and inhumane conditions at Immigrations and Customs Enforcement facilities made detention too fancy. "War on Women," meet "War on Immigrant Women."

this isn't a women's issue... men constantly get raped in prison. this is an ins/doc issue. the dems need to get a representative of amnesty international to speak to the house on this one.

They met to discuss the supposedly posh conditions at the Department of Homeland Security's immigrant detention centers.

I think American taxpayers have made life for these guys a little too posh.

W-W-W-WHAT?!?!?

What is up with these guys? They want to allow rape and sexual assalt in the immigration detention centers? Absolutely not. Not in my country, if I can help it. I am overwhelmingly outraged and perplexed by the GOP and their radical stance against women's health and a woman's basic human rights. I always knew they were a bit off with some of their philosophies, but this is just over the top and off the cliff. This from the side of the isle, where the majority of their constituents insist that we are a Christian Nation.

I would say send these politicians to a facility, so they know how it feels, but I reject the idea of giving the GOP what they want........

Just being reported this same group, republican house members, just rejected the Violence Against Women Act. Signed into law in 1994 by President Clinton and introduced by then Senator Joe Biden, this law had been previously reauthorized in 2000 and then again in 2005. Shame on the republicans for this continuation of the war on women.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) attempted to turn the immigrant rights advocates' figures against them, arguing that, comparatively speaking, the number of detainees who have died while awaiting deportation is actually quite small:

"110 deaths is not alarming to me," he explained, suggesting that immigrants were actually safer in an ICE detention center than they were "in the broader society."

But as one witness, ICE assistant director Kevin Landy, pointed out, King was comparing apples and oranges. The detention population does not mirror the broader population: Immigrants in their mid-30s generally don't die of old age.

We dragged the pond and come up with people like Steve King to speak for us? He doesn't believe that 110 lives (who's only crime was crossing the border for the majority of these detentions, nothing else). Even if they were drug dealers, they deserve to be mistreated and possibly die in U.S. detention? Mr. King, read the Bible and the way that prisoners are to be treated. This is not the way.

As someone wisely said, it's hard to believe these guys have girlfriends, much less married.

Now, now Cunningham, considering the economy nobody can turn down a job these days. Their h00kers will hold their nose while they perform the act- sort of like conservatives will do in order to vote for their wishy-washy candidate Mitt in Nov.

Why would rubepublican see rape as a big deal? The corporations rape them, they turn around and rape the American people. It makes them happy so why can't you get with the program?

For GOP to understand RAPE, they need to experience it. It is similar to waterboarding story. Mr. Beck screamed and whined about Waterboarding but did not have the cohones to get waterboarded himself. The reality does not dawn until it happens to you. So the civility in detention centers is translated as luxury and therefore unreasonable for any such measures that would alleviate the inhumane condition...Let it be free for all... do what you want. Then they call themselves God fearing Church going people.

Looking at the GOP, if they had their way, we would be back to the stone age, where they would roam around in a loin cloth, wield their club and drag their women by hair.

It is nauseating to see we have reached a point in history, where we are being dragged down by some (majority) of the so called "respectable" elected members in congress, who want us to return to stone age laws.

If the gotp had their way we would all still be single celled organisms.
libertarians wouldn't cooperate and the conservatives would be too scared since their ancestors got along just fine without it.
