Joan Bannister, Former Teacher, Resigns After Allegedly Saying She Wanted To Measure Student's 'Boobage'

Teacher Resigns For Saying She Wanted To Measure Student's 'Boobage'

Joan Bannister, a 53-year-old former math teacher resigned after she allegedly approached a female student with a ruler and said she wanted to "measure her exposed 'boobage,'" the Orlando Sentinel reports.

The paper cites a memo from the Lake County school district, which says the Eustis Middle School teacher claims she never used that word, but "could have handled the situation better" when discussing dress code regulations with the girl.

The district recommended the teacher take five days of unpaid leave. Bannister instead requested a hearing, but then resigned days before, WKMG-TV reports.

According to the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida, teachers "shall not intentionally expose a student to unnecessary embarrassment or disparagement."

District spokesman Chris Patton told the Sentinel that despite Bannister's resignation, an investigation will still take place.

"I think it's an unfortunate incident, and I hope the investigation brings it to a close," Patton told the paper.
