Mega Millions Jackpot Gives New Yorkers Big Dreams

What Would You Do If You Won The Mega Millions Jackpot?

As the Mega Millions jackpot climbed to a record $500 million on Wednesday, New Yorkers are hitting up newsstands, eager to get their hands on the winning ticket, which after state taxes would reel in a staggering $237,047,700.

Jerry Delakas, owner of Jerry's Newsstand on Astor Place told HuffPost lottery tickets were indeed the hot item, "Sales are booming here! Everyone agrees on big dreams, even if big numbers are difficult to define. They want to just take a day off from work and maybe even get out of New York City."

46-year old Monica Stephenson told the New York Post she had similar wishes, "I would show up at work and quit my job. I like my bosses so I would be nice and give them notice." Another dreamer said he'd move to Florida and "buy me a big mansion like Derek Jeter."

And live like Jeter you could very well do! The Yankee shortstop's reported salary rakes in just short of $15 million annually. The jackpot winner would top that chump change by receiving $19.2 million a year for 26 years. Or they can receive one colossal check worth $359 million.

The lucky winner could buy 5 of New York's most expensive properties on the Upper East Side!

Joe Junas laid out his winning strategy to The New York Post, "I hear the winner is always someone who takes a dollar quick pick somewhere instead of playing $20 in the same place. It’s half a billion! So my strategy is special this time. I’m increasing my chances any way I can."
