"CSI: NY," the long-running spinoff of CBS's successful "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," was left out in the cold when CBS renewed 18 of its primetime offerings early. However, fans will be "satisfied" if the upcoming Season 8 finale had to serve as a series finale, according to "CSI: NY" boss Pam Veasey.
Veasey told E! Online that the finale will revolve around Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) and how the characters related to him, "how he's a father, a brother, a friend, a boss, a godfather to all of these people," Veasey said. "And how each of the characters individual lives relate to his, how he needed them, how they needed him."
Both "CSI: NY" and "CSI: Miami" are in danger of being canceled by CBS. EW also predicts that "Gary Sinise and company [will say] goodbye this spring," while the mothership "CSI" series was renewed in March 2012.
"This large-scale renewal is testimony to the strength, stability and success of a deep and diverse roster of top-rated programming," Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement announcing the renewals. "It positions us for continued success next season and certainly creates an environment that will give our new shows the best possible chance to succeed."
If "CSI: NY" gets the greenlight for Season 9, Veasey said the show will follow its characters out of the lab.
"I think our finale dictates really going home with them in another season and really expanding beyond the job," she said. "Eight seasons on a show is a great run, but I'm greedy and want more."
