Sex Shop Customer Freed
Officers in Orange, Conn., were called Thursday afternoon to an adult entertainment store in Orange, a town just west of New Haven. The man had been trying on the cuffs and locked himself in a pair.

ORANGE, Conn. (AP) -- There's a new twist for police in Orange, Conn.: They've had to break a man out of handcuffs.

Assistant Chief Ed Koether tells the Connecticut Post newspaper that officers were called Thursday afternoon to an adult entertainment store in Orange, a town just west of New Haven. The man had been trying on the cuffs and locked himself in a pair.

Koether says shop employees couldn't get the man free and called the fire department and then police.

The cuffs were similar to the kind police officers carry. But Koether says the officers tried several keys that didn't work. The handcuffs had to be removed with bolt cutters.

Koether says he doesn't know if the man had to pay for the broken handcuffs.

Next time when you go into a sex shop and trying on the equipment make sure you take a pair of bolt cutters. How embarrassing it must be to call 9-1-1 and request to have handcuffs removed while shopping in a sex shop?

I wonder if the police checked if this guy was a registered sex offender?

why on earth would they check that? Because he was in a sex shop?
04:27 PM on 04/02/2012
Because it would be obvious to me to see if they person was a registered sex offender.

You break it, you bought it. Well, now at least he'll know they work when he gets them home, but maybe he'll have to call the police when he's trying to remove his next pair. Keep the phone nearby!

Stephen King wrote a book called Geralds Game...remote cabin, wife handcuffed to the bed...husband drops dead of a heart attack...key's way out of reach. Something anyone might want to read before they decide to try the whole bondage thing. :-)

Wasn't there also a maniac on the loose in the woods outside the cabin, too?
10:12 AM on 03/31/2012
Yeah, there was, only thing is I never figured out for sure if he was real or a result of her mental trauma. Might have to find the book and re-read it now that I'm thinking about it.

ohhhh that book is so disturbing. I read it for the first time a couple of years ago.

He dropped dead because he was going to rape her (after she wasn't into it anymore) and she kicked him in the crotch. mwahaha

Oh yeah, forgot that part, haven't read it since it was published, 15-20 years ago? What was your take? was the crazy killer real or trauma induced?

If the customer walked out of the shop with the handcuffs on would he then be considered shoplifting and if the police arrested him would they remove the handcuffs he had on and put new ones on him? There's a teaser

Ha! Oops. Not exactly dealing with a Rhodes Scholar here, are we? I suppose, though, it is much better than an at-home incident. Presumably he had clothes on when the cops got there... My question is, brand? I certainly don't want to make the same mistake! :x

Yep, you should always have safety scissors. Also, they have all kinds of classes and instructional DVDs on this topic -- you can actually cause nerve damage to hands if you do it wrong or leave someone tied up for too long a time, so if this is more than a one-time thing, do investigate those...

I would think that an adultshop would have a policy of no instore "testing" of products.

It depends on the product. Some of them obviously not because of hygiene issues, but if you're buying, for instance, a $400 whip, you want to try it out to make sure you like it.
