Trayvon Martin Case: George Zimmerman Was 'Jekyll And Hyde,' Former Co-Worker Says

Posted: 03/30/2012 6:36 pm

In a week of leaked high school disciplinary records, police reports and police station surveillance video in the war over public perception of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman, more details have emerged about Zimmerman’s history of violence.

Zimmerman, the 28-year-old Sanford, Fla., neighborhood watch volunteer who shot the unarmed 17-year-old Martin to death last month, was fired from a job securing illegal house parties for “being too aggressive,” according to the New York Daily News, which quoted a former colleague of Zimmerman’s. According to the co-worker, Zimmerman worked for two agencies that provided security for house parties from 2001 to 2005.

“Usually he was just a cool guy,” said the former co-worker, who the newspaper didn't name. “But it was like Jekyll and Hyde. When dude snapped, he snapped.” The Daily News said Zimmerman earned $50 to $100 a night for the parties. He was fired for being too aggressive with patrons.

“He had a temper and he became a liability,” the newspaper quoted the former co-worker as saying. “One time this woman was acting a little out of control. She was drunk. George lost his cool and totally overreacted,” he said. “It was weird, because he was such a cool guy, but he got all nuts. He picked her up and threw her. It was pure rage. She twisted her ankle. Everyone was flipping out.”

The new portrayal of Zimmerman comes as distinctly different images of both Martin and Zimmerman are being floated by people on both sides of the Martin killing. Zimmerman told police he shot Martin Feb. 26 in self defense after being jumped from behind. He has not been charged.

Photos of a fresh-faced, smiling Martin in a Hollister T-shirt helped attract sympathy to his parents' call for justice, as did a 2005 police mug shot of a scowling, overweight Zimmerman photographed after being charged with assaulting a police officer.

This week, stories challenging both portraits emerged. Photos of Martin with removable gold tooth caps and revelations that he was suspended from his Miami high school three times, including once for possessing an empty baggy that school officials said contained marijuana residue, became ammunition for conservative websites and and people sympathetic to Zimmerman.

Law enforcement in Sanford also leaked a police report to the Orlando Sentinel, offering details of Zimmerman's account of the killing for the first time.

The report said Zimmerman told police that Martin attacked him from behind, punched him in the nose, wrestled him to the ground and violently bashed his head on a sidewalk. It was then, Zimmerman told the police, that he pulled out his 9mm handgun and shot Martin in the chest.

Surveillance video from the Sanford police station recorded the night of the shooting, first broadcast by ABC News on Wednesday, showed a clean-shaven and fit-looking Zimmerman being ushered in to the station without visible abrasions, bruises or bloodstains on his clothes, all of which may fail to support his account of a violent death struggle. In addition, the funeral director who handled Martin’s body reported there were no cuts or other marks on the teen's hands that would suggest violent fisticuffs.

In the days after the shooting, Martin’s family said police officers told them Zimmerman had a clean record. But a cursory search of county records showed a 2005 arrest on charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a law enforcement officer. The charges were later dropped.

Also in 2005, Zimmerman was involved in a bitter domestic violence incident with his ex-fiancee, Veronica Zuazo. In that case, Zuazo filed for a restraining order against Zimmerman, who she said snatched her cell phone from her hand and pushed her during an argument. The next day, both filed court petitions accusing the other of violence.

According to the Miami Herald, Zuazo said that three years earlier, Zimmerman attacked her while the two were driving to a counseling session. Zuazo said she popped her gum in his face and he repeatedly smacked her in the face. In January 2002, she added, Zimmerman became enraged that she had come home late. They wrestled and he threw her on the bed, smacking her, according to the newspaper.

In September 2003, Zimmerman called police and reported that another motorist spat on him, according to reports, Zimmerman followed the man in his car until the police arrived. Daniel Osmun, the other driver, told police that Zimmerman was tailgating and that he spit his gum out the window "out of frustration."

Osum said that Zimmerman then pulled alongside of him, and the two argued. In a police report of the incident, Osum said “at one point, he thought Mr. Zimmerman was going to attack him." No charges were filed against either man.

Zimmerman was the self-appointed captain of the neighborhood watch at the Retreat at Twin Lakes, a gated community where Martin was visiting his father and his father’s girlfriend when he was killed. Zimmerman noticed Martin, who was walking home from a store, and called 911 to report the youth as "suspicious." (Zimmerman had called 911 46 times in recent years.) According to 911 recordings the night of the killing, Zimmerman followed Martin against a dispatcher’s recommendation. The police initially said that at one point Martin noticed he was being followed, turned to ask what Zimmerman wanted, and a physical altercation ensued.

Zimmerman was questioned and released by police, who said they lacked evidence to contradict his self-defense claim. The State Attorney’s Office is considering whether to file charges. A grand jury is scheduled to be called on April 10.

Some of Zimmerman’s neighbors said he had a history of being overly aggressive and followed people whom he thought appeared suspicious back to their homes.

At an emergency homeowner’s association meeting on March 1, days after the killing, “one man was escorted out because he openly expressed his frustration because he had previously contacted the Sanford Police Department about Zimmerman approaching him and even coming to his home,” a resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity told HuffPost. “It was also made known that there had been several complaints about George Zimmerman and his tactics" in his neighborhood watch role.

The former co-worker quoted by the Daily News said he had not recently been in touch with Zimmerman, but his latest troubles came as a shock nonetheless.

“He definitely loved being in charge. He loved the power,” he said. “Still, I could never see him killing someone. Never.”

Zimmerman is a phony issue and stands for what is regarded as "News," by the media that seems to be lacking decent issues in the Press. Let's look at Kazai's wish to get Nato troops out of Afghanistan before they do any more damage (American soldiers parading body parts before the camera in 2010, the Massacre by the alleged shooter: Sgt Bales.) ) that the Black church would subvert for no more reason than some Black kid is killed being in the wrong place at the wrong time. --.-the Prosecution has no creditable witness, other than obscure Tape reportings and seen-in-the dark citizens who would go the way the Public Opinion),
. Why is it CNN and Huffington Post makes up a new issue every week or so, which distracts from the country's real issues. Is the American Public so starved for News it'll be manipulated by CNN and Huffington Post (and others, including NBC, CBS and ! Everytime we turn on the TV we are regaled by the next weeks new "findings."
The Public is getting sick of having questional news shoved down its throat by the Press that seems not able to come up with some interesting International (there's a REAL World out there, you know--we don't need to constantly see small-town killings as the SOLE form of entertainment on TV.) happenings.
MEDIA--get real, put out some news we don't need to get propagandized on DAY after Day.

If you want to discuss Kazai's wish to get Nato troops out of Afghanistan or any other national issue, I'm sure you would be welcome there.

While I do agree that there are other important issues in our country and could see how you would think this is a deflection, as the mother of a young male, I have difficulty coming to terms that in this country, my child unarmed child could be gunned down by a wannabe cop and because there were no witnesses, the shooter could say it was self-defense and just walk away and people would think it is okay because my son "looked" like a thug.

There are other forums you can go to have your "intellectual" world news discussions and no one is forcing you to be here. But please do not tell me what is or should be important to me.

If this topic is not interesting enough or "REAL world" enough for you, I'm sure there are other forums that would appreciate your input.

It's pretty easy to see how the media is manipulating (along with the Black contingent of the populace) the mob to railroad Zimmerman to Prison. At first there's a minor riling about a white man shooting a black kid; then it appears Zimmerman is not really white! That's alright, the backers of the black kid shot need a scapegoat and the Florida law of "stand your ground," gets roundly eroded by black ministers who can develop big crowds to subvert that very law and see "justice": (their form of it) The marches take on a violent stand: they want Zimmerman in prison for murder, and life. The poor kids in the ground and many have preceded him on lesser pretexes. This is only one issue. The next in line is the 33 year-old case of the missing White kid, discovered to be missing by a Cadavar dog with a fantastic ( one would think) memory who apparently communicates with his handler that "Gee, I smell a dead man under a half-foot of concrete. I see the issues coming up; one a week that can be made to last weeks, on no merit whatsoever. Merit? They have no merit--they are distractions from what is really importaint: unemployment, factories that can't produce, a sickening economy. Huffington! Get real. But don't follow CNN; they are worse.

The writer of this article must be a racist. Pretty slanted and ignores all the good work Zimmerman did protecting his community.

The Huffington Post isn't the only source reporting Zimmerman had a history of violence. I see this article as well written and has exposed Zimmerman for what he is...a bully who feels the need to be in control.

It has been a bit of a relief that he was arrested finally. This really should be a slam dunk, because of the FACT Simmons followed Treyvon in his car and on foot, he is lying about Treyvon coming from behind, he had to turn around to confront Zimmerman.and is on record. This was nothing but murder, Zimmerman was a time bomb, if it had not been Treyvon, it would be someone else because this guy was looking to use his gun.

Good news the media admits to leaving critical info out of their transcript of Zimmerman's call to the police. The following is from Instapundit:

INDEED: “It is likely that, if not for conservative new media, the misleading edit, which inflamed racial tensions in the Martin case, and which was repeated by Stetler’s own New York Times, would have gone unnoticed and uncorrected. As it is, the producer responsible for the edit at Today has been fired, but the individual who made the same edit to the earlier MSNBC story (since corrected) has not been identified or disciplined. Nor has anyone at any other outlet or network — many of which made similar selective editing choices — been punished.”

How can Trayvo-Zimmerman situations be avoided?

While we wait until all the facts are available about the Trayvon-Zimmerman case, I am curious if anyone has been thinking about what could be done to stop a similar situation from occurring again. For example the following are some things I think might have helped to kept the Trayvon-Zimmerman tragedy from happening:

Neighborhood security cars should have light reflecting bumper stickers on both the front and back of the cars driven by neighborhood watch volunteers, so good people would recognize if a neighborhood watch car was following them and understand that the driver was just keeping a watch on the neighborhood, and bad people would leave the neighborhood. If Trayvon had seen a "security" bumper sticker on Zimmerman's car, perhaps Trayvon wouldn't have gotten angry and paranoid about Zimmerman following him. Perhaps he would have just yelled that he was on his way to his Dad's girlfriend's home.
Neighborhood watch volunteers should not get close to strangers wandering around, but they could yell to them, "Hi, I'm with the neighborhood watch program, do you need help?" I suspect that potential thieves would just leave.
Gated communities could discuss how guests should behave when they are visiting someone. Should guests stay in the home into which they were are invited and not wander around unless they are with the person who invited them?
Any other ideas?

Neighborhood watch should never be conducted by a single person.
05:27 PM on 04/20/2012
It was not just "a home" that he was invited to. It was his own father's residence. Why should he have had to worry about how he was "behaving" when he was not doing anything wrong! He was an innocent and was even in a GATED community under the auspices of being a resident's own child. And he was a child. Maybe a child with tattoos, maybe with gold teeth, maybe even over 6' tall and - wait for it - wearing a HOODIE. But he was an innocent, and he died at the hands of someone who should not have been tracking him and should not have been armed (with or without a license). I only hope "due process" wins the day for Justice in this case.

Does anyone else take notice that Zimmerman is not crying? He does not even look upset or worried as he leans up against the wall in the parking garage. This man just killed a human being and he shows no signs of remose at all and sure he is going to be all nice and cooperate with the police he needs and wants them on his side. Saddly we all know that he is going to get off because of his dad who is a judge. How many more times are we going to see this before we really get upset where someone with connections in high places gets away with murder.

His dad is a retired Supreme Court Magistrate Judge. Could that be why he really wasn't arrested? Where is the butterfly stitch on his severe head gash? Why is his shirt tucked in? The evidence doesn't support that Trayvon jumped him either.

The killing of any child is a tragedy. But where are the protests regarding the larger problems facing black America?
· In 2005, the most recent comprehensive study on black-on-black crime from the Justice Department should have been a clarion call for the black community to take action.
· Almost one half of the nation's murder victims that year were black and a majority of them were between the ages of 17 and 29. Black people accounted for 13% of the total U.S. population in 2005. Yet they were the victims of 49% of all the nation's murders. And according to the same report, 93% of the black murder victims were killed by other black people,.
What does the above information have to do with the Trayvon Martin - George Zimmerman case? Consider the following:
· Since 93% of black murder victims were killed by other black people, why isn't that problem addressed? Why don't the Jesse Jackson type agitators address doing something about the killers of 93% of the black murder victims? Are they only interested in identifying and punishing the 7% of the non-black killers?
· If Trayvon had been murdered by a young black man, President Obama would not have paid any attention to Trayvon's death. We know that for sure, since President Obama has not paid any attention to the 600 murders of young black men by young black men since Trayvon Martin's death.
06:40 PM on 04/05/2012
Good questions that need serious addressing. However, being fair to the President, I believe the President paid attention because of the level of attention, being national attention, that the incident received. I believe any president would pay attention to any incident that received that level of attention.

For Your Information: It Is Possible That George Zimmerman’s Florida Magistrate Judge Father Help Keep Him Out Of Jail 3 Times PRIOR To Killing Trayvon Martin???Robert Zimmerman, a former Orange County magistrate judge, recently wrote a letter to The Orlando Sentinel defending his son, who’s been dragged through the mud for shooting the unarmed 17-year-old last month. In the letter, the senior Zimmerman asks people not to jump to conclusions . Now more info is being dug up on his “victimized” son through public records and revealing his checkered past. According to a records search on George, he was previously arrested for domestic violence, resisting an officer without violence and most shockingly, resisting an officer with violence — a felony charge that surely could have landed him in prison. All three of those arrests, however, were mysteriously closed with no semblance of charges for the Florida resident. So how was someone with a violent past including that of battery against an officer able to carry a 9 mm handgun? Maybe that’s a question Robert Zimmerman should answer.
