Instagram Android Release: New App Now Available At Google Play Store (PICTURES)

It's finally here!

Instagram for Android, a new version of the popular photo-sharing app, is now available for download at the Google Play store.

"We’ve put an incredible amount of effort into this app to make a first-class experience for Android users everywhere," Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said in an emailed statement.

Lauched in 2010, Instagram's iPhone app has been a smashing success. Systrom said early in March that over 27 million iPhone users had downloaded the app. Now, the company claims to have over 30 million registered users. Over 400,000 have signed up for the Android app since Instagram opened pre-registration on March 25.

If your mobile device is running Android 2.2 or high, head over to Google Play (née Android Market) to download Instagram for Android.

We've already started playing around with the new app, and we've got to say we're tickled pink that it's finally here. Our own Jason GIlbert just snapped this pic of HuffPost Business Editor Maxwell Strachan (who doesn't look too thrilled, actually).

Finally! Been waiting on this one for a while now. I’m starting to develop a couple of apps on my own after working with an agency for several years. They did a great job with the app on Android. It is smooth and very easy to use. I wish other iPhone to Android crossover apps would put in the same effort. It's worth the wait to not have an app crash all the time or not work comparably to the iPhone version.

i switched from an iphone recently to android with galaxy note ... LOVE THE PHONE, back to the subject .. so glad they finally came out with instagram for android ... i tried using other apps like vignette and a few more .. but love instagram!!

Pix O Matic isn't really in the same category, Instagram is a social network to share pictures.

Wrong. Its just a way to take pictures and upload them to your favorite sites. Same as Pixlr O Matic. But Pixlr has sooooo much more options with effects.

anyone knows if it works "offline" ? like you take snaps and you don't have to share them or put them anywhere on the web. I'd like to try it on a samsung galaxie and it ain't no smartphone its an mp3 player.

Vignette has always been the best camera app for Android, imo. Not sure what's so great about Instagram except for the kitschy icon. If you want the social aspect with some cool filters, try PicPlz. Or, if you'd prefer more one touch effects because Vignette intimidates you (the royal you, not directly you, Steven), there's always Camera Zoom FX.

I'm sure Instagram is nice, but there have been great, in some cases better, apps on Android for a while now. I sincerely don't understand the hype.
