Knife Hidden In Mayonnaise Seized Before Smuggled On Plane

Mayonnaise
Officials say that a man tried to smuggle a knife hidden in mayonnaise (not pictured) onto a flight at JFK International Airport on April 3.

NEW YORK -- Federal officials say security screeners at New York's Kennedy Airport caught a man trying to smuggle a knife onto a flight by plunging it into a full tub of mayonnaise.

A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman says screeners stopped the man Tuesday as he arrived for a trip to Mexico City.

The hiding spot was poorly chosen. Jars of mayonnaise are also banned from carry-on luggage in the U.S.

The TSA considers mayo to be a liquid or gel. That means passengers can't bring it aboard unless the container holds less than 3.4 ounces.

TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says Port Authority Police confiscated both the knife and the mayonnaise. They still allowed the man to catch his plane.

I read multiple articles on the subject and I do not get where you are getting hate crime from the situation. Please elaborate or provide a link that supports your theory.

He probably brought it because they probably charge a bunch for condiments.

Let me guess, he was not a person of color and I am confident that he was not Middle Eastern, else he would have been in FBI custody.

Why on earth did they let him on the plane? I wouldn't want to be on the same flight as someone who tried to smuggle a knife on board.

For all we know it was a butter knife or one of those little plastic ones.

It's the mayo that is really scary -- that stuff is loaded with cholesterol!
07:31 AM on 04/08/2012
But the cholesterol only kills you slowly !

Wait what? If your caught smuggling weapons onto a plane they just take them away from you and send you on your way? If it was C-4 would they have done the same?
