Obama: Daughters' Sports A Source Of Anguish, Joy

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama says his daughters' efforts on the basketball court are a source of both anguish and great joy.

He tells CBS announcer Clark Kellogg that, quote: "I bleed when those girls play. ... Watching them play I just want them to do so well."

In a taped interview shown at halftime of the NCAA championship game Monday night, Obama admitted that he experiences the same extreme reactions that most parents can easily identify with.

The president says when something goes right, he gets more joy out of that than he ever got when he played.

Obama says his daughter Sasha is the one playing more lately and her team has been having some success. He helps a bit with the coaching but says he can't take much credit.

President Obama is smart so I believe he will give his girls an important lesson on competing, and that is:

Prepare

Do your best

Play fair

Have fun

If you do those things and understand that playing a game is usually not that important, one can hold their head up high no matter what the final score is.

And one more thing. When the girls are competing ( or taking a test in school ) they should remain focused and resist distraction.

One of my son's baseball coaches is kinda sorta famous (he's the CEO of Men's Warehouse and is all of their commercials). Once we got over the fact that yes, he's THAT guy, we all just settled down and called him Coach George.

I'd imagine that would be a little more difficult if the POTUS showed up to coach my daughter's basketball practice every now and then. But what a cool thing for the other girls on the team.
