One Direction Turns Down White House Invitation From First Lady

One Direction is busy -- so busy that they weren't able to make time to accept Michelle Obama's invitation to the White House's annual Easter Egg Roll on Easter Monday.

Politico reports that the first lady ran into the British boy band at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday and extended the invitation. A spokesperson for the band, which formed after its members met on the U.K. version of "X Factor" in 2010, told the website that One Direction had to decline the invite, "due to prior commitments."

Although they won't be able to make the event, the boys were thrilled to meet the first lady, reports U.K. paper The Sun. Harry Styles reportedly entertained Michelle, who was joined by daughters, Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10, by asking how they order pizza at the White House.

The band, comprised of Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, has hit it big both in the U.K. and now in the U.S., poised to be one of the biggest acts in music today.

Former Beatles member Paul McCartney knows how the boys are feeling. "There are so many bands who all get called 'the next Beatles'. Suddenly it puts an awful lot of pressure on them to be the next Beatles," he told ITV1's "Daybreak". "Oasis were 'the next Beatles' once, if you remember. It's a pressure, because suddenly you've got to live up to all the things that we did, and it was a different time. So let's just call them 'the next terrific band'" he said, adding that he wishes them good luck.
