Onyango Obama, President's Uncle, Gets Driver's License Back After Drunk Driving Arrest

BOSTON -- President Barack Obama's uncle has been granted a hardship driver's license by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles just a week after he lost the right to drive for 45 days in a deal in a drunken driving case.

The license granted Monday allows 67-year-old Onyango (ohn-YAHN'-goh) Obama to drive from noon to midnight to get to work as manager of a Framingham liquor store.

Obama is the half brother of the president's late father. He was arrested in August.

He pleaded to sufficient facts last week.

Onyango Obama is from Kenya. He's appealing a deportation order.

I would imagine that the local police will probably keep tabs on Onyango Obama to make sure that he isn't driving drunk or outside of the hours he's been allowed to drive in order to work.

As far as his deportation hearings go, he should be investigated and, if found guilty of being in this country illegally, he should be deported, unless he is a legitimate asylum seeker. He shouldn't be treated any differently than any of the others who have been deported during Obama's administration - especially those convicted of a crime.

Perhaps this will make President Obama consider his actions when he breaks up Latino and other families because one person in the family does not have the correct visa or other paperwork, but other members of the family are here legally.
