Denver billionaire Philip Anschutz is willing to write a check to buy Los Angeles an NFL team and build a downtown football stadium, according to what AEG President Tim Leiweke told the Los Angeles Times.

"Phil is now completely engaged in this process," Leiweke told the Times. "And the only thing he won't do is get leveraged to the point of doing a stupid deal on a team. But if this is about finding a win-win for the NFL and Phil Anschutz, he is prepared to write that check now, subject to getting done with the [environmental impact report]."

Leiweke also spoke with CBS, as depicted in the video above, and responded to recent reports that NFL executives weren't pleased with AEG's downtown stadium plans and that it was putting the plans in peril. “You name me one project AEG’s been involved in that we didn’t finish,” he said. “Every project we ever started, we’ve finished.”

However, finding a team will be an obstacle, NBC Sports points out. Although primary candidates for teams willing to move to LA are the Chargers, Rams, Vikings and Raiders, none of the respective owners have indicated they'd like to sell.

Leiweke told CBS that his company is also still committed to upgrading the city-owned Convention Center as a part of the proposed Farmer's Field that would be completed in 2016.

72-year-old Anschutz has a net worth of $7 billion as of March and is the 47th richest person in the US, according to Forbes. Having originally made his wealth in oil, railroads and telecom, he moved on to form Anschutz Entertainment Group, or AEG, which operates concert and sports venues. With AEG, he controls sports teams including the Lakers, the Kings and the Galaxy and manages pop stars including Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and the Black Eyed Peas, Forbes reports.
