Marcel Schindler The Old Man And The Sea

Dutch artist Marcel Schindler uploaded a stop-motion illustration of Ernest Hemingway's story "The Old Man and the Sea" to Vimeo on Saturday.

Staged on a white table and large white sheets of paper, the illustration takes us through the journey of "The Old Man and the Sea" through simple, black marker line drawings. The story is told from the old man's sailboat launch, to run-ins with beasts of the sea, all in the four minute video.

The illustration is neat, but is set to an oddly epic/postdub song. The only relation to the AWOLNATION track is the title, "Sail." Don't let the music distract from the super neat skill of Schindler's artistry and visual storytelling abilities, though.

Watch below for Marcel Schindler's "The Old Man and the Sea:"

I am so jealous of people who can draw. My mom was an artist and I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. That was great and fun to watch. For those old enough remember Capt Kangaroo and he had that magic board that the pictures use to get drawn on and you never saw a hand...

Great video of great drawings of a great story. The music was inappropriate for it, though.

This reminds me of a show on PBS when I was a child, It was someone reading a story, and an artist doing illustrations on a large blackboard. I have no idea what it was called, but I loved it.

In addition: a note to Huffpo's headline writer - this is not stop-motion animation. Stop-motion animation involves the physical manipulation of objects. This is sped up or time lapse animation.
