Buried Truck
Authorities say investigators using a helicopter to find a stolen 26-foot-long truck spotted a man using a bulldozer to bury the vehicle in a western New York sand pit.

MURRAY, N.Y. -- Authorities say investigators using a helicopter to find a stolen 26-foot-long truck spotted a man using a bulldozer to bury the vehicle in a western New York sand pit.

Officials say the box truck was stolen last week from a business in Wayne County. Police were told the vehicle may have been taken to Murray, 25 miles west of Rochester.

Investigators say when they flew over the sand pit, the owner's son was in the process of burying the stolen truck using a bulldozer.

The two men haven't been charged. The investigation is continuing.

I think if I were to steal a truck and bury it, it would be somewhat smaller than a cargo van.

Okay well here's more information: The father and son team were taken into custody so I guess that means that they were arrested. The father actually owns a construction company and the 77 acres where the sandpit is located. Authorities also found two backhoes and a car that were stolen in recent years from various Rochester suburbs.

Hey, some people have garages to store their vehicles and some people have sand pits...

If you look at the picture , he was covering the truck with dirt or sand, not burying it. Easier to uncover it or get access to it later...But I guess now it's a little to late.......And why haven't they been charged ? Do they need more evidence ? ..Or is this a common practice there ? And why weren't their names mentioned ?.....Something is a little odd here.

The truck likely had a GPS tracking device, common in trucks now.
He probably stoe what was in the cargo hold and didn't consider the technology.

One reason a helicopter is being used to locate a missing truck most likely is the possibilities that it might get packed with something that goes "BANG"!

A missing truck gets helicopters in the air. I hope they use the same effort for missing children.

They did in Texas.
Found the child, unfortunately, in a lake.

As a matter of fact they do. That is the truth. They look for bodies in the woods where it might be hard to get to (other than the killer) It's mind boggling what a helicopter can do. Where I live, in a small city in CA when you hear a helicopter right away we/ or I know they are looking for someone. Sometimes I say really a whole hour of flying around with your spotlight on. They are up they having fun flying around. They fly maybe 3 times a year. Geeez enough already. Peace! I mean no harm.

How do the cops know he wasn't trying to dig it out. We've had more than one truck that would bury themselves when they got depressed. Let's not rush to judgement here.

Do you mind giving a little more info. I've never heard of what you speak. You are probably correct but I'm just curious how a truck can just be buried. I'm not the only reader wondering this. Thanks for ur kind reply.

There'a critter we call "sand tigers" where I live that burrows into the dirt or sand to form a pit so that when an insect (usually ants) falls in they can be dragged down to be consumed later.
Same thing with box trucks.

Too bad they found it. It would have made a great TV show twenty years from now when they dug it up looking for buried loot.

Anyone remember Geraldo's opening of Al Capone's vault?

You are joking so I feel comfortable replying to your comment. My girlfriend's husband DID bury his car and reported it stolen. He got caught, she's out of state and I could not believe what she had just told me. Yup he buried his car. No joke. Then reported it stolen to the ins co.

Likely more Insurance fraud. This crap goes on and raises the rates for INNOCENT folks. Their theft means high rates for everybody as the company tries to absorb the costs. I hope they nail em.
