DPS To Allow 10 High Schools To Self Govern, Will Sell Services To Other Schools

Next year, Detroit Public Schools will take another step toward becoming a smaller system of autonomous schools and will attempt to make money selling services to other schools, officials announced today.

Roy Roberts, the district's emergency manager, revealed the DPS 2012-13 Action Plans, which include allowing 10 high schools to self-govern and selling central office functions such as food services to schools throughout the region.
