Pride & Joy: A Documentary About Southern Food Culture 6 Years In The Making (VIDEO)

Posted: 04/ 5/2012 8:42 am

Pride Joy

Anyone that we have ever met that is a member of the Southern Foodways Alliance cannot stop raving about the organization. The SFA aims to document, study and celebrate the diverse food cultures of the changing American South. After viewing the trailer of "Pride & Joy," the SFA's upcoming documentary about Southern food culture, we see why the members are so excited about the organization -- there's a lot to explore when it comes to Southern food. The documentary has been six years in the making and is produced by John T. Edge and Andy Harper, and directed by Joe York.

The hour-long documentary premieres in September 2012. It's marked on our calendar.

Saw this today at the 10th Annual Oxford Film Festival. Awesome! If you eat, you should see this movie.

If this is the best part of southern food and southern culture, I really fear to see what the rest of it is like. It seems like this video is more about projecting backwards stereotypes than anything else.

Yeah, forget the people who work tirelessly to explore our world and push the envelope of science and knowledge. Forget the people who work to improve conditions for the impoverished. Some twanging rancher drinking wine in a pasture, THAT'S a man.

That's a boy. A selfish boy. If it works for him then it works for him by that by no means is the measure of a man.

The article says September 2012. I live in a very small southern town, and most documentaries are never shown at the local movie theater. I usually have to wait until it is released on DVD. Large southern cities like Atlanta, New Orleans, or Houston may have a theater willing to show this one.

Great contribution from the sickest, fattest state in the union. Whole thing strikes me as sad.

John T. Edge travels all over the south researching the foods that real people eat, although the SFA is headquartered near the University of Mississippi in Oxford. You know, the home of William Faulkner.

I'd definitely see this movie and I hope it gets seen around the world. Southern cuisine is part of American culture.

John T. Edge is the business and I'd take him more seriously than Paula Deen any day.
