Sandra Fluke: Some Legislation Targeting Women's Health 'Dangerous' But Affordable Care Act 'Amazing'

While Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke calls some legislation that targets women's health "dangerous," she only has good things to say about President Obama's health care reform bill.

Fluke, whom Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) rejected as a witness before an all-male congressional panel on the contraception-funding mandate, found herself in the media spotlight after radio host Rush Limbaugh called her a "slut" for advocating that employer health plans cover contraception.

Obama called to support Fluke, who has become something of an unofficial spokesperson for young women in the contraception debate.

"The Affordable Care Act is amazing legislation and really groundbreaking, especially for women," she told reporter Laura Bassett during a live video discussion Thursday in HuffPost's D.C. office. "It does so many things for women's health. Of course there's the women's preventive care amendment, which the contraception regulation is a part of, and it includes screening for breast cancer, for cervical cancer, for domestic violence because of course that's an aspect of women's health as well."

Sandra Fluke's testimony was hilarious. $1,000 a year for contraceptive at Georgetown when Walmart provides the same for $9 a month. Exaggeration of this magnitude eliminates her as a truthful witness.

Wow. I mean, really, wow. Almost once a week, I stop in on American media websites, just to remind myself that however frustrated I become with my own country... hey... it could always be worse. I feel for the Americans with a brain, or sense of humanity, or any social awareness whatsoever. It's hard to believe these fights are actually existing - and in the country that, if countries were human, would have long been diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder - "American Excpetionalism"?! It's exceptionally SOMETHING, but what, nobody outside of America can close their mouths long enough and overcome their disbelief to rationalise it. I don't know. Just wow.

i find it a bit insulting in that she makes women sound like they have no control over what they do. they absolutely need the pill immediately before their pants magically come off.

i also find it ridiculous that people say republicans are attacking womens' rights. it is a matter of respecting private institutions/organizations' rights to decline supporting things they morally object to.

i think we can all agree that medical conditions should be covered, which they are. that means women need a way to get affordable birth control. how about planned parenthood? you can get contraception for as cheap as $15.00 a month. however, i feel that this could be one of those situations where the elitists tout planned parenthood as being good enough for everybody, but wouldn't go there because they are above it. kind of like congressional members giving us healthcare, but not partaking in the same programs that are good enough for the masses.

i am so tired of this manufactured outrage over non-issues.

Kaiser Permanente’s Physician Sexual Predator Game
The Southern California Permanente Medical Group has a 20-year pattern and practice of covering up physician sexual molestation of women in S. Cal., posted on www.hmohardball.com “Dr. Jekyll’s Scary True Confessions.”
Read the California Medical Board’s Accusation against Southern California Permanente Medical Group President, Dr. Edward Ellison’s, intentional failure to report sexual predator physicians and enforce women patients’ right to protection from sexual assault, battery, and rape.

The Republicans are always advocating for "less government" and "fewer regulations." Yet
now they want to intrude on the most intimate part of women's lives, mandating ultrasounds and outlawing contraception. I don't get it. Any self-respecting woman -- Republican or Democrat -- that votes for these misogynistic cavemen is totally lacking in pride.

You would have thought that a month later she would have gone away. There are no such bills that go after women's rights or healthcare. She is just trying to rile up attention where there is nothing going on.

So many here have missed the point. Most BC is used as PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE and should be covered by institutions insurance--even Georgetown's.

Republicans in many states have pushed for bans on BC through their personhood laws, which even with backing from the likes of "Pink Slip Etch-a-Sketch" Mitt have been repeatedly voted down, if brought to the electorate.

How long did "Joe the Plumber" milk his 15 minutes? He still is? That's 4 years. There's your answer, righties. Ms. Fluke has 3 years and 11 months of her 15 minutes left. Enjoy!

So the fact that she already possesses a BSc counts for nothing in your book? - how many degrees have you got?
