Is This The Smallest Bunny Ever? (PHOTO)

Forget the Easter bunny -- this little guy has completely stolen the show. He may not bring you candy in a basket, but look how tiny!

PHOTO BELOW

According to the photo's credit, the baby's name is Ruediger, and he lives at a zoo in Muenster, Germany, with his sister Kaline. Ruediger, 72 grams, and his 60 gram sister were found in a "dung pile" at the zoo and are now being raised by keepers. Talk about rags to riches.

But before you run out and get your own, check out this slideshow featuring six things to know about rabbits as pets.

And if this story has you wondering about the origin of the Easter bunny, a quick hop over to the History Channel reveals the icon first arrived in the United States with German immigrants in the 1700s as their egg-laying rabbit "Osterhase."

This appears to be a regular baby cottontail. I worked with dozens of these little guys at a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. They are feisty and intelligent little puffballs.

If you think this baby is cute PLEASE be aware that thousands of these beautiful creatures are chopped to bits by lawnmowers and many are ravaged by cats. Please keep your cats indoors (it's far better for their own health, too), and watch where you are going when mowing the lawn. It will save countless lives. If you find a nest it's best to let them be, but when this isn't possible, or if you are absolutely certain that the mother is gone, please bring them to a wildlife center where they can be fed and cared for until they're big enough to survive on their own. DO NOT try to feed them yourselves. They need to be tube fed, and much of what people offer them only makes them ill. If any wild animal you come across is injured, also be aware that all vets must treat wildlife for free, but most are greedy and unwilling to truly help, so they just euthanize everything. Please find a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in your area. You never know when you'll need it. I promise you that you won't regret doing your best to save an animal's life. It's the most rewarding feeling in the world.

Animal Planet has a series called "Too Cute". I've only seen them feature kittens and puppies. Wonder if they'll do bunnies for easter and if so, show this one.

Photographer was trying to get picture (or was it video?) of a baby rabbit born without any ears. He inadvertently stepped on it. End of earless baby bunny.

I am personally offended at Huffpost for this thinly veiled assault on my masculinity. Do you have any clue how hard it is to remain all manly and tough in the presence of tiny little bunnies?

Yes they are all small. That bunny is what people that know bunnies very well call a runt of the pack.

http://www.raising-rabbits.com/dwarf-rabbits.html

Some rabbits are really, really small and bred like that on purpose. Above link shows the dwarf varieties. Shows one baby about 3 1/2 inches long but it died. Apparently if these rabbits inherit two "dwarf" genes, they die; with only 1 dwarf gene they are a dwarf. Seems they get 1 gene from each parent and dwarf/dwarf = dead bunny dwarf/normal = dwarf bunny normal/normal = slightly larger than dwarf. Way too cute. Almost makes me want to get some little rabbits but my husband would eat them if the dogs didn't get them first.
