Anthony Bourdain Talks Food, Sex And Diarrhea On 'Daily Show' (VIDEO)

Posted: 04/ 6/2012 8:59 am

Anthony Bourdain

"No Reservations" host Anthony Bourdain stopped by "The Daily Show" on Thursday night to promote the eighth season of his show (premiering April 9 on the Travel Channel). Jon Stewart remarked that he felt like Bourdain's job is "what people do if they didn't have to work." "I have the best job in the world," replied Bourdain, "there's no doubt about it.

Stewart later joked that he had gotten diarrhea merely from watching "No Reservations." Bourdain understood; he apparently jokes with his crew that "if there's not at least a 50% chance of diarrhea when you eat something, it's almost not worth eating."

Like Bourdain is wont to do, he compared food to sex. He felt that people that aren't interested in food were equivalent to people that didn't like music, or sex.

Generally speaking, this appearance was probably on the milder side for Bourdain. He didn't call out anyone specifically (cough cough Paula Deen) or say anything particularly controversial. Instead, you get to see why exactly Bourdain loves his job so much -- he goes to cool places and drinks with cool people.

Tony Bourdain is the reason I got into food as seriously as I did. This is one guy I'd like to hang out with to eat, drink, and talk food and travel. But the guy has to get over his fear of lederhosen and go to Germany, especially Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg. As for Tony being arrogant: Come on. This guy is self-effacing as much as he's snarky. He eats local cuisines to learn about the cultures and the people, and he believes that denying food or drink someone offers him to be incredibly rude. As a traveler and food writer myself, Tony is someone I look up to -- literally.

I finally forced myself to read this article despite the headline. The quotes weren't that odious, actually. The headline was.

I enjoy No Reservations, but it is almost painful to watch knowing I will never have that life.

I know, right? What a cool job he has. He's paid to travel, eat, and meet people. Not a bad way to make a living.

Love them both! Bourdain is not exactly likeable and loveable like Bobby Flay but he does knows what hes talking about, his show is very insightful and interesting. Def a fan!

See, and I found Bourdain to be very likeable, down to earth, and real in this interview. Not a big phony like some Food Network personalities who shall remain nameless where it's all about them first and then the food. Bourdain focuses on food and its place in the lives of the people and culture of wherever he happens to be visiting.

I enjoy his cultural awareness as much as his food

I find Bourdain to be nothing but respectful of and genuinely interested in the cuisine, culture, and people of the places he visits. I don't detect a whiff of arrogance from him at all.

If you watch his show it's about more than food. His trip into Iraq and Turkey was incredible. This isn't Rachel Ray prancing around in Italy. And the video production quality is exceptionally high, which is why the show keeps hauling in Emmy's for cinematography. Tony's introducing viewers to places and people no other travel show will.
