Getting pre-wedding jitters or "cold feet" before the Big Day is pretty common, but what happens if you realize you're just not in love with your fiance anymore?
Unfortunately, that was the case for UK bride Kyra Wright, who realized just a few days before her July 2006 wedding that she longer wanted to marry her boyfriend of four years.
Wright told British newspaper The Sun that her boyfriend begged her to go through with the nuptials, convinced that she was just suffering from a bad case of cold feet. And despite the fact that she would be lying to herself and more than 150 guests, Wright agreed.
"We would lose every penny of the wedding fund if I backed out," Wright told The Sun. "We had people coming to our hometown from across the UK. Everyone had given up time and money to watch us become husband and wife. I didn’t want to embarrass us in front of our friends and family and James didn’t want that either."
To save face, the couple agreed to do the ceremony but not sign the official paperwork. On their Big Day, they went through all of the motions of a wedding, then broke up three months later. Wright went public with her story in The Sun on Friday, nearly six years after the sham wedding.
"I just wish I had had the courage to leave James earlier," Wright said.
