The Civil War gets pored over like few other topics in American history, but here's one tidbit you may not have heard before: some Civil War soldiers actually glowed in the dark.

Thanks to a winning combination of bacteria and parasitic worms, some soldiers wounded at the Battle of Shiloh started to glow in the dark -- and it saved their lives.
