Christopher James Hooker, Former California Teacher, Left By Former Student Following Arrest

MODESTO, Calif. (AP) — A Northern California teen who made national news when she and her high school teacher moved in together says she has broken off the relationship following allegations that he sexually abused another student.

Eighteen-year-old Jordan Powers told ABC News (http://abcn.ws/I3hJPw ) that when her now former boyfriend, Christopher Hooker, called her from jail she told him, "We're done."

The 41-year-old Hooker was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexually abusing a different student more than a decade ago.

After being booked on one count of oral copulation with a minor, he made a brief court appearance where a judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Powers and Hooker moved in together in February, with Powers dropping out of James Enochs High School in Modesto, while Hooker quit his teaching job at the school and left his wife and three children.

I'm sure taxpayers will be happy to know he's been living with her while on paid administrative leave. Would someone please explain why California taxpayers are paying for a teacher hitting on his students and not teaching any longer.

14 years ago this dude was 27, the new girl in question was 17? That doesn't sound perverted to me. 16 is the legal age of consent in KS, 17 in MO. So in an 18 state the guy is a pedophile but in another state, not so much. What a witch hunt. How do they expect to prove he had sex with her 14 years ago? What a waste of taxpayer money.

its not the age so much as it was the teacher student boundary that he keeps crossing. How would you like it if your kids teacher was trying to seduce him or her? Not cool

Yea I understand that teachers shouldn't seduce students. I wasn't aware the first girl was a student; my post was mostly about the arrest for the first girl. But it is an interesting situation overall. We don't know who seduced whom actually. Young women wield a lot of power over older men - most have no idea. The aspect our society is unable to accept is that perhaps the two were genuinely mutually attracted to each other. We don't know that they weren't.

Sexually abusing a student a decade ago, IF the student was under 18, qualifies as pedophilia, I'd guess. Also, IF he had a sexual relationship with his student/girlfriend before she was 18, that also would qualify.

The definition is simply "being sexually attracted to children," so all he needs to have been is attracted to those students who, in most people's view, are/were children.

All these teachers (of both genders) who use their positions to attract and abuse kids should be in the slammer, in the general population, where the cons can make them feel appropriately welcomed. Same goes for priests, family members ( Like Mickey Mantle's older half-sister who abused him), nuns, priests, movie directors, etc, etc.

Scientist say the brain's frontal lobe does not fully develop until we are 21 years old. It is the region of the brain that governs emotions, reasoning, logic, and problem solving. This is a clear example of a brain that needs a few more years to mature and one that never quite made completed the process. Anyone with half a brain could see this was a losing proposition from the very beginning. Hopefully for Jordan this lesson will teach her the importance of self esteem and inform her future actions so that she will make better choices.

As for Hooker - maybe he will have a successful new profession behind bars.

I think she (Powers) would have to press charges for him to go to jail. 

I'm surprised he was arrested at all because there is a statute of limitations.
